Picking up on Ivory's desires for the evening smooth out any remaining wrinkles of annoyance Lucas may have felt for Ivory walking away. After all, everyone deserves some rest after experiencing various tribulations. Maybe they'll dance tonight. Maybe they'll dance another night on the Strip. Maybe their paths won't cross again. The unknown didn't always have to be upsetting, it could lead to excitement with the right mindset.
However, he was grounded in the present thanks to the imposing figure that was standing in front of him.
Worthy?
Lucas wasn't sure if that was an assessment directed towards him or not. Lucas was in a good mood so he decided that it was indeed a compliment directed towards him and he wasn't going to dig any deeper. His hand practically disappeared inside of Maks' hand when the two of them exchanged more formal greetings.
"Nice to meet you, Maks. How long have you been in Vegas? I don't think we've crossed paths before. I mean, there's plenty of Lost in here that I've met before, but I know most of our court."
Or at least most of those whose mantles were around the same potency as his own. He had no doubt there were plenty of Winter courtiers he had never met nor would he ever meet. Plus, it was easier for their court to hide their mantle potency compared to the other courts.

Maks regarded with the rather aptly named Fire with a single non-existent eye towards the charcoal Lost. He gave a small nod towards her.
‘Was she named before or after the Change? If before coincidental irony prevalent. If after, why change?’
The Ogre regarded Lucas and shook the hand firmly, being wary of his strength. “Not met before. Roughly half year.” He held out his phone, unlocked, not that he knew how to lock it in the first place. “Number.”
The Iphone was rather basic. Not even having many apps, music or even photos. The app for contacts was not even up. But the Ogre kept his expression flat.
Technology nowadays confused him. The internet did not exist in his time. Not in its current iteration at least. It took an entire house to be able to do the most basic of things.

"You want my number?"
Lucas was confused for a moment. Maks didn't give off the vibe that he wanted to dance with Lucas and take him home for a night cap after Ostara, so one of the standard reasons why someone would ask for someone else's number on a night like tonight was not in play. One of the more popular reasons someone asked for his number was because there were ghosts involved and they needed his assistance.
He really hoped there weren't any problematic ghosts lurking around tonight. No, that was doubtful. Spring had their own Gravewight. They weren't going to let a ghost mess up the ritual and make fools out of themselves in front of everyone on their big night. Before punching in his number, he decided it was time to try and get a better read on Maks and see what this interaction was all about.

Noting it was in, and using it to send a text, which took a moment as the large digits were ill suited to such a small screen. The text simply read his name. Strangely enough not a Vegas area code. “For help. Court things needing done soon?”He asked, unsure how things worked on the best of days in regards to the courts. If an investigation to see which state his area code is from, on success it reveals to be Washington.

"Ah, yeah. The court always has things that need to be done."
Lucas finished plugging in the number, handing the phone back to Maks. With Lucas having a better feel for what Maks' intentions were, Lucas didn't feel the need to snoop around. He didn't dig any further into the phone or any of the contents inside of it, instead handing it back to Maks when he was done.
"I maybe the only one from our court enjoying myself tonight." He chuckled as he glanced over his shoulder in the direction he thought the rest of their court might be in before looking back to Maks. The non-Vegas number did standout to Lucas, even in his inebriated state.
"Have you had a chance to connect with the rest of the court yet?"

Maks shook his head. “Own first. Contact made. Now outreach.” He looked out to the dance floor with trepidation then shook his head slightly. Maks took a long draw of the bottle of vodka in hand. “Do not dance. Only drink.”
A man of simple things in life and of few words it seemed.
He offered the bottle to Lucas after wiping the top with a cloth.

Lucas eyed the bottle hesitantly for a moment. He was not one to typically drink out of a bottle, never mind from a stranger. However, this was Ostara and Maks was the first Winter Courtier he had met once the sun started to go down. Plus, the Ogre came to him to get a feel for the party. The least he could do is celebrate the festivities with another Silent Arrow.
"Cheers."
He accepted the bottle and knocked back a healthy portion of it. Phew, the alcohol burned his throat on the way down. Since they were hanging out by the bar, Lucas put in a request for some more water. He might not need it now but in half an hour or so he might feel differently. While he was at it, he also asked for some more snacks. The bartender obliged and advised Lucas he would get his goodies in a few minutes, his order wasn't exactly a priority at the moment.
Back to the matter at hand.
"Hmm, well, we should make sure you meet our Monarch tonight. Most of our court is hiding away in a corner, I think. I can help you track them down after we plant the seeds."

Maks nodded. “You lead. I follow.” He wiped the lip of the bottle again and took a long drink. The burn was good. And the way the warmth spread throughout the body was better.
‘I did not anticipate so soon judgement would be passed on true Monarch. Let us see if worthy for crown. Or we shall have Lucas take it.’
He fiddled with his phone attempting to access his notes before giving up.

Lucas shot a look over his shoulder. Everyone was still dancing and drinking away. He imagined in another half-an-hour-to-an hour, the rite would take place. Until then, the party was going strong and the alcohol was becoming even stronger. He was thankful when the his snacks and glass of water arrived.
"I was thinking about hanging out here for a few or heading onto the dance floor again until the ceremony takes place." He couldn't help but grin as he gestured towards the body paint that covered his chest, arms, shoulders, and part of his face.
"Whenever we go to meet our Monarch, I'll track down my shirt and blazer. Until then, I'm trying to get fully into the spirit of Ostara. How about yourself? Any new beginnings you're looking to kickstart tonight?" He asked in what sounded like a helpful voice. With Maks being a newcomer of sorts to the area, Lucas felt responsible for helping him have a good time tonight even if Lucas wasn't a host for the evening. The two of them were in the same court, that was was enough motivation for him.

Maks thought the question over for a long moment. “Court first. Then we shall see. Unsure if others are worth time.” The only one he met outside Lucas that seemed interesting was Firebringer. One of two to actually speak to him without fear. “You?” ‘Other courtiers would be useful for plan. If it goes into motion.’
When the bartender had a moment, Maks requested some chicken tenders and fries. Such an interesting dish that had not existed when he last walked the Earth.

"Fair enough, official introductions and all that are important."
Lucas happily munched on his soft pretzel and cheese dip. The food was welcomed because that lost shot of vodka was working in league with the double shot of whiskey Lucas had during his toast. The warm, pleasant, floating feeling that came after the initial stage of being buzzed threatened to roll into being full out drunk if he didn't ease up and refuel his system with actual nutrients. The bartender did him a solid and hooked him up with a large glass of water. The Winter Fairest took several long sips of water before he spoke up again.
"It's nice to see another Winter Courtier here. There's not too many of us around. At least not that I've seen. You know how things are in Winter. There could be a whole legion of us hidden away in the shadows that we only become aware of when we hit a certain rank." He grinned, amusing himself with his own commentary.

Maks chuffed, the he took another drink from the bottle. It was getting low. He took a stool, he was done standing. “Hard to miss sadly. Am ‘surgical wrecking ball.’” And he had been called as such when visiting Natasha’s bar and nearly knocking over several things. The surgical portion came when he knocked into a waitress and managed to catch her and her tray without spilling anything.
The fact he was exceptionally proud of that one moment was not important.
“Am aiming for Knighthood. Protector. Not leader.”

"I don't doubt that."
Lucas gave the Ogre a once over, looking impressed at the power that radiated from his fellow courtier. While Lucas was handsome to an almost other worldly point, rarely did he give off a threatening vibe. If he wanted to be intimidating he knew how to be and at times, he was quite effective. However, it wasn't something that came naturally to him and it wasn't something he particularly enjoyed doing. Fortunately, there were plenty of courtiers in Winter like Maks who could cover that angle for him.
"Knight, eh? I'd like to become a square at some point and work my way through the ranks to protect too...but in more of a leadership type way." He paused, his eyes looking glassy from the vodka and whiskey, which lead to him waving his hand in a dismissive manner.
"I mean, knights can be leaders. Great leaders in fact. But yeah...they are more the protector type and martially oriented. I want to be more of a diplomatic leader. I need to find out who would be a good fit for me to swear to. With all of our sssssseeeeccretts, it can be hard to figure out who is really a good fit, so it's not something I'm rushing into any time soon." He chuckled and shook his head at himself.
"Sorry, I started to ramble about me and my aspirations. What drives you to protect others?"

“Am no leader.” He stated. He was amused. The drunken courtier beside him was lively. Interesting. So focused the Ogre was on his internal musings, he was unprepared for the inquiry. Maks froze at the question, the bottle at his lips. His mind flashed back to his homeland. It rolled through memories at a rapid pace.
His friends.
His family.
His comrades.
His country.
A life he was supposed to live.
All Lost.
Suddenly Maks’ upturned the bottle and chugged the remainder. The familiar warmth of inebriation began to spread throughout his body, more than a buzz now.
‘My mind is the last thing I shall lose.’
He took a breath, then spoke. “I have lost much. I refuse to lose more.” His hand was shaky, so he gripped the bottle in an attempt to stop it. Due to his strength, it hard enough that cracks began fo form.

Lucas didn't think much of the response until he saw the big man's hand shake. He didn't need to know Maks all that well to recognize what body language like that could mean. The Fairest was familiar with the gesture, after all, there had been many times in the past where he felt his own hand start to shake and his breathing quickly became restricted.
The Fairest took another healthy sip of his water before studying Maks to help him figure out if this was a safe subject to explore or if it was time to redirect to other topics.
