The Corduroy was a Rock and Roll, bar not far from the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. Known for its music and 70's throwback look, it was a hot spot for Rock lovers. The bar ran length-wise across the central room, it was illuminated by a large glass bubble wall with slowly shifting lights. The main room was always busy, hosting a smattering of tables, with a DJ turntable at the back. The back hallway led further into the Lounge, Conversation pit, and the Lightbox. Tonight the Corduroy had a live band, a change of pace from its usual DJ-led entertainment. It was half-past 2 am, and Riley was running late. The Moth had just finished a shift at "The Library" gentleman club and was now hastily making their way down the strip to Corduroy for tonight's date. Shit shit. I need a cellphone.Riley was frustrated, tonight's performative femininity had left them with a wave of body dysphoria that had put a bad taste in their mouth. It was made bearable by the large wad of tips that they had collected, even with the stage fee it was a good haul for the evening. The dancer peeled the long blonde wig off, revealing their undercut lavender hair. They had thrown on some skinny jeans, knee-high boots, a red plaid button-up, layered with studded leather Jacket. They had to look the part for the bar of course. The Darkling pushed their way through the crowd standing around smoking outside making it to the front door. Pausing to adjust their hair in the reflection of the door before entering inside. They scanned the room trying to spy their date among the sea of people.

Lucas had arrived at the bar about 30 minutes or so prior. He never trusted traffic on this side of town and the last thing he wanted to do was make a bad impression by arriving late when he wasn't up to anything in the evening. Unless there was an emergency at work, the majority of his evenings were free. For the most part, he enjoyed staying inside by himself. Yet here he was, actually looking forward to a night out in the town. He couldn't remember the last time he had wanted to go out to a large gathering for social purposes. The only reason he would even look at a crowd this size would be because one of his superiors needed him to do some kind of information gathering job. Which had become increasingly less frequent now that he was getting much better at interacting with ghosts.
Tonight, however, he had left the land of the dead behind him in his apartment and he was very much among the land of the living. The atmosphere inside of the bar was electric. Even though it was well past 2:00am, there was still a healthy crowd left inside. He had been hanging out at the bar and caught the attention of a handful of young women. They were visiting from California and they were looking for trouble. Lucas grinned to himself, wondering how eager they would be if they actually knew how much trouble he was. But they were young and the world was full of promise for them. Far be it for him to be the one who rained on their parade tonight. He bought them all a round of drinks and did celebratory shots with them when he learned that part of the reason they were out here was because one of the ladies had recently broken up with her "absolute trash fire of a manchild" boyfriend. A couple of them nudged him towards the dance floor but he found a way to deflect without them even realizing it or at least it didn't end in hurt feelings for them.
"Ah, ladies. You'll have to excuse me. My date has arrived. I would say don't do anything I wouldn't do but you know what they say...what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." He winked at them before getting up from the bar and heading over to where Riley was.
Even though he was moving away from the bar, he knew that their eyes would still be on him. Usually, he tried to dress in a more subdued way. Tonight, he had intentionally dressed in a way that would make him stand out. He knew how much they liked being at the center of attention. If the two of them dressed to the 9s he was confident they would pull in a lot of envious eyes. For his part, he was wearing a sky blue blazer with a crisp, white form fitting button shirt underneath. Everything from his black dress pants to his white shoes were pristine and meant to grab attention with the contrast in color. He had opted to wear a cologne that had a warm and spicy fragrance to it.
"Hey you. You look amazing" Lucas flashed Riley a welcoming smile. Despite all of the noise and lights that surrounded them, his gaze was solely on Riley. If they were open to it, he would rest a hand on their waist and lean in to press a kiss on the corner of their mouth. "How was work?"

The bright one beamed as Lucas approached. Even though it had been well into a month of seeing each other, Riley was still struck by his good looks, when they saw him. The darkling glanced over his shoulder at the onlookers with a slight smirk.
"Got an entourage tonight, they're cute," The Bright one said playfully.
"Thanks, Thought it fit the aesthetic. You're lookin' pretty sharp tonight. You look good in blue"
Riley leaned up, helped by their heeled bots, and planted a lingering kiss on the Fairest chilled lips. The darkling shot a self-satisfied glance over his shoulder to the onlookers. That helped take the bad taste from work out of their mouth.
"It was-handsy... But lucrative" They ran their hand through their lavender hair. Riley had expressed it before and it wasn't worth going into again.
"So you buyin' me a drink? Or we just standin' here to look cute? "

"Careful they don't overhear you or you might give them ideas. They must have said "YOLO" at least 20 times already." He chuckled, responding in a playful tone as well.
Before he had a chance to thank them for the compliment, he felt their lips on his and that immediately silenced him. As the kiss drew out, his hold on the Darkling's waist tightened and he drew them closer to him. A couple of people who were walking by stopped to gawk at the two of them. When Riley pulled back from the kiss, his face was lit up with a smile. Unfortunately, the smile was short lived and quickly turned into a frown as they shared how work went. It looked like he wanted to say something but he could tell they didn't want to get into it. Instead, he dropped his hand from their waist and took their hand in his, giving it a small squeeze that he hoped was comforting gesture.
"I mean, we are doing a good job at the whole being cute thing if I do say so myself." The Fairest playfully bumped his shoulder into the Darkling's. "But Last Call is coming up soon. The time to drink is upon us. We can look cute and maybe a little messy later." He replied with a small wink before he lead the way over to the bar still holding onto their hand.
Lucas chatted briefly with the bartender, letting the bartender know that the drinks were going on his tab. The bartender then turned his attention to Riley and asked what they were having.

"Promises, promises" The Moth wagged a finger before following behind his hand guiding them through the crowd.
Such a tease.
"Pretty good, I think a bit better than that" Riley loudly called over the music as they landed at the Bar. Pausing to give him an obvious look over with a smirk, following him to the bar.
"Fuck it. Let's do a long island" The Bright one lazily watched as the bartender mixed the alarmingly alcoholic beverage.
Riley's winter mantle fell over those they engaged with a persistent cold shoulder, it gave others the sense of being ignored, looked over. Perhaps Lucas had become accustomed to its presence, but it felt less intrusive that evening. In truth, the mantle had already begun its process of shedding. The darkling's eyes drifted to the pack of women that had been eyeing Lucas and couldn't help but smirk.
You only live once. The thought crossed their mind, for a moment the Bright Ones luminance seemed to waver and flick. As their drink arrived, the moth took it up lightly and brought their attention back to Lucas.
"So, I've got to know. Favorite rock star?"

"On occasion, I clean up nicely." Lucas stretched for their benefit while they looked him over. While he may not be as muscular or fit as the majority of summer court Changelings, he did know how to dress in a way that was complimentary to his figure. He even shaved for the first time this week, freeing his face from all of the scruff that was threatening to over take it.
"I see the YOLO spirit has found you too." Lucas was amused at Riley's choice of a drink. After the work shift they had, he couldn't blame them for wanting a stiff drink. He had settled on tonight's well drink. There was likely more sugar in it than alcohol, but it still packed a respectable punch.
The group of young women noticed Riley looking at them and they broke out into a chorus of "Oh my God, do you think they...you know?" and giggles that were only going to grow louder as their glasses of alcohol emptied out. For his part, Lucas didn't seem to notice the exchanges or if he did, he wasn't acknowledging it. Instead, he seemed focused on slowly but surely finishing his drink.
"Hmm, my favorite rockstar, eh? If you're not being a genre purist, then I would have to say Chibi from The Birthday Massacre. Have you heard of them? They are a darkwave synth rock band from London, Ontario. I grew up in Toronto so I hit up a few of their performances whenever they were out that way." Lucas kept close to Riley while the two of them spoke partly because of how loud the music was. The other part was because he enjoyed being close to them. He didn't take their hand in his again, but his fingers often brushed against their hand or wandered up their arm some while they spoke.

"Perhaps it's Yolo or consider this. Why buy three drinks when the price of one will get you there?"
Riley raised one of their distinctive brows at the women chattering amongst another. Shaking them off, the Moth pulled their focus to Lucas.
" A Canda kid huh? Texas-born and raised. Can't, say I've heard of 'em. We should give 'em a listen sometime"
The darkling eyes didn't move to the touches, but Bright one was keenly aware of them. They withheld showing any signs of notice, in part from their mantle, but the other part was to teases Lucas to work hard for affection.
"My first love in the genre was Joan Jett, a classic. Though Courtney Love from Hole became a favorite near the end of high school" Riley took a sip from their drink.

"Texas, eh?" After being described as a Canada kid, he intentionally made his "eh" more pronounced. "And yet, I've not heard a single yeehaw out of you. You've been holding out on me, Riley." He had a look of mock disappointment on his face.
"It's okay though, you can make it up to me by teaching me your American ways of drinking top shelf on the cheap. I am but a simple Canuck, who enjoys regrettable but financially acceptable well vodka." Lucus attempted to keep a straight face but his lips betrayed him because they curved upwards into an amused smile. He raised said cheap well drink up in the air before he polished the rest of it off.
"Nothing wrong with the classics. Plus, you're not making me apologize for Nickelback. As a token of gratitude and continuous good will between our two countries, I'll buy you a shot of Crown Royal and a shot of Tito's vodka for myself." Neither Riley's mantle nor their lack of reaction to his touch seemed to deter Lucas. He much preferred someone who kept him on his toes over the swooning masses like the group of younger women who finally seemed to lose steam now that neither of them were giving them attention.
"And, of course, we can listen to The Birthday Massacre later. I would be happy to introduce you to all kinds of different experiences." A hint of mischief flickered in the fairest's eyes. His finger tips lightly trailed down their hand, occasionally tangling their fingers together. At some point, he switched over to holding their hand and running his thumb along their knuckles.

"Yeehaw?" The Darkling raised an eyebrow. "And ya ain't goin' to," They said letting their Texan accent come in force. It gave the Moth pause, it tasted like the smell of old dust in their mouth.
They let it ghost of the pass slide off of them. Make no nevermind.
"I haven't made you apologize for Nickleback, yet" They correct. With a slight smile. "Well, I accept those terms. " The Bright one looked down at the only half-finished Long Island. If they spent any time considering if they needed another shot, it was only a fleeting moment, quickly ignored.
It was around this moment that Riley noticed that Lucas had begun to hold their hand. The bewitched eye's flicked downwards to give the gesture an appraising glance.
"Such boldness," the moth said in feigning an undignified tone. If Riley was talking about Lucas innuendo or touch was unclear.
"Think you've earned that yet?" The moth pulled their hand away from his and gave him a shooing motion.
"So wheres that shot you promised huh?" Riley raised a teasing eyebrow.

Lucas' past ghosts were not one that slid away so easily. After all, they were always around him in a literal sense. The combination of Riley's mantle and their words "Think you've earned that yet?" caused echoes of the past to reverberate through the fairest's mind. There were brief glimpses of a dark, terrible place where a ghostly figure was crudely trying to have Lucas prove himself as worthy Underworld diplomat. He couldn't remember most of the memory itself, just the feelings associated with it; submissiveness, a coldness that cut deep inside of him, and fear. So much fear.
But that was then and this was now. Instead of fighting his nature, Lucas worked on accepting it. Which was a large part of why he felt more at home in Winter than anywhere else. There was more freedom in how he wanted to deal with his trauma because coming to accept ones losses and the grief associated with it did not have not a one-sized fits all solution box like he saw paraded around in the warmer courts. In this situation, he was choosing to take on a more submissive, pursuant role in their dynamic rather than being forced into the role. He found his own sense of personal power in that.
"Not yet. The evening is young and twilight is yet to come."
He offered them a wink before he disappeared from their side and made his way back to the bar. When he returned, he had a large shot glass in each hand suggesting he had gone with double shots.
"However, Last Call is upon us. So, here's to good relations, fulfilled promises, future boldness, and leaving the past behind us--such as forgetting the past couple of decades of Nickelback's music."
Lucas raised his shot glass to Riley. "Yee-haw" He tried not to laugh before he downed his shot in one go.

As Lucas left for the bar, Riley's eyes fell back on the group of women. Having a moment without Lucas allowed the darkling to take each in turn. Seeing their beauty, their choice of fashion, glimpses of personality. Riley wondered for a moment who they were, what their jobs were. What they would eat for breakfast. Those thoughts melted away as something else caught the darkling's attention. The taste of glamour that exuded from them. Before the emotions of desire were sustenance but at that moment Riley couldn't help but appreciate its fragrant honey-like taste.
As Lucas rejoined them Riley gave him a smile. They took the shot glass holding it up for the toast, their painted red nails tapped it lightly.
"Ah-! Eye contact" Riley reminded. Keeping their eyes locked on Lucas before taking the shot. It was a tradition of the Moth's as they said. If you break eye contact during cheers, it means you will have bad sex. Likely some old college habit.
"To all those things, Cheers," They say a smile denying him a ye-haw.
Riley coughed slightly afterward with a laugh. Whipping one eye gently, before looking to Lucas. If the last call was soon might as well just jump into the fun topics, cant waste a good drink.
"So of the heel brigade, which one is the hottest?" Riley raised one of their eyebrows at him, the end of their lip turned upward in a coy smirk.

"Right, right." Lucas turned his full attention to looking directly into Riley's eyes. Despite how bright and blue his eyes were, there were traces of exhaustion that always seemed to linger if someone looked deep enough. The blue in his eyes was also more subdued as all the alcohol he had drank started to catch up with him and they were a touch glassy.
Lucas gave them another mock disappointed look. One day, some day, the ye-haw would come. For now, there were other enjoyable thoughts and potential situations for him to entertain.
"Hmm." Lucas tilted his head to look over at the Heels Brigade. Overall, they were an attractive bunch and he had no doubts they would find the adventure they were looking for somewhere in Sin City.
"I like the tall, black haired one. The one wearing the red strappy dress. You can't go wrong with that kind of dress." As he spoke, the group noticed he was looking their way again. They started giggling loudly and pushed each other, before he heard a "fuck it". The short, blonde haired woman who was wearing a short black dress appeared to be the leader of the group. She strutted her stuff on over to the two of them.
"Sooo...my friends and I were thinking of going to back to our hotel room in a few because it's so loud in here. We have lots of drinks and other things there. Do the two of you want to join us?" Desire radiated off of her as she eyed the two of them. While Lucas normally preferred different, more complex emotions to get his glamour fill off of, he could not ignore the potency of the glamour that was coming off of her in waves.
He raised both of his brows and shot a curious look at Riley.

The darkling followed Lucas gaze and his descriptions of the woman in the red dress. There was a ping of envy that Riley felt at that moment.
She was confident in that dress. Certain of who she was and what she wanted. She was tall, beautiful confident. Sure that confidence might be alcohol-induced but it was there. She was surrounded by friends, comfortable, laughing. Would they have been like that if they weren't taken? Or had they been exiled from that life, when they came out?
The thought brought the cold touch of sorrow and the envy ate at their gut. Was that fair? They asked the question after all. In time the moth would better learn that Envy was natural, it was about not letting it control you. now was not that time.
"I am quite fond of the redhead," Riley said nodding towards the pack. "That jacket works for her, among other things"
The Bright one paused as the woman approached, and watched the transaction between Lucas and the woman before the question turned to them. The moth smirked. It could be fun after all, a night of debauchery, hell it could provide a chance for Riley to squash that envy, outshine them all.
However, was Lucas that kind of guy? Was he truly down with that?
"How about you give us your number, the hotel y'all be at. He and I will finish up, and come by in a bit"
It gave them a chance to get out of it if they wanted to. It also allowed the anticipation to either excite the heel brigade or weed out the ones who shouldn't take part.

"Oh, for sure. We are at the Bellagio, on the top floor in a King suite." The blonde gave Riley her contact information before she flounced over to her friends. All of them were giggling loudly and looked at Riley and Lucas one more time. Then they beelined out of the bar, sticking together like a well trained pack with their purses and jackets in tow.
Lucas looked amused while he shook his head.
"I can't say I am entirely surprised it went in that direction. The moment they saw the two of us together, I could practically hear the wheels in their head turning."
There was a pause on his end and the curious look on his face grew.
"Do you actually want to meet up with them or were you saying that to spare their feelings?" For his part, he wasn't reacting one way or another to suggest if it was something he was into or not. However, he didn't look or sound uncomfortable so at the very least he didn't seem upset that Riley was considering taking the pack up on their offer.

" A night of fun sounds pretty great but that depends on you"
The moth circles their finger slowly across the lip of now empty long island glass. Their eyes trail away from Lucas to watch as the heel brigade made their giggling exit. Riley raised a hand to wave them off. With a soft chuckle and a shake of their head they moved back to the conversation
"Tonight was a date for us. I wouldn't want to spoil that if it is not of interest to you. It would be a lie to say that the offer is not tempting, but a night just with you hold a unique appeal"
The bright ones Antenna flicked slightly catching the light of the bar. They examined their date for a long moment taking him in before asking the next question.
"what's your stance on all that? Sex and the such?"
