"Someone has to do it I expect" Riley admitted. They frowned at that thought for a moment before saying more. "We can be shit's cant we? I Don't envy the idea of that kind of work. " The spring courtier took a moment to consider. "I guess that's where community comes in right? Purpose...hope what not? Give us something that can keep us from those paths. And when we fail that. Well we have folks like you." The moth offered a soft smile as if to be encouraging.
It was an unfortunate truth of their kind. The damages they could do to each other were impressive enough, let alone what they could do to mortals. Riley seemed somber on the matter. They had complicated feelings regarding law enforcement but saw the line of work Kai was going had its place and purpose. The moth also seemed to feel a bit of guilt that their efforts were superficial in comparison.

Kai flashed a thumbs up. "Yup. That's the key, I think. When people are engaged by a healthy community, when they're part of something and society's checks are working normally, it sure does keep people from going crazy and needing intervention. Right, boss?" Kai waved Solomon over. "Riley, Sir Solomon. Sir Solomon, Riley. Riley's a performer locally. New in town, like me."
She raised both eyebrows inquisitively.
"How was your smoke break? You and Archie get into the finer points of hosting?"

"At least not born and raised" Riley smiled as Solomon approached.
"We met briefly before, but it's nice to get a second chance" Their last meeting had been less than ideal. If there was ever a time to one could call ideal for meeting Sir Solomon.
"Archie didn't talk off your ear did he?" The Bright one smiled.
The Bright ones normal charms felt lost against the cold and dower presence of the Knight. Riley Antennae fidgeted slightly at the mild discomfort of it.

The Illes rolled his neck as he made his way back inside. He had scared the shit out of the Fairest, but that wasn't an alien experience for him; even glittering under the mocking gaze of the moon. Despite the new countenance, he looked more tired than ever as Kai tried to bail the water out of this sinking ship.
"More prevention than intervention. No one likes it when it gets to that point," he sighed, not intending on sounding sympathetic, but there it was. Scarlet gaze tracking Archie's retreat, he frowned, "I have a habit of cutting straight to weighing philosophical perspectives, which isn't exactly what people are looking for. Religion and politics, right? I'll learn the meaning of taboo subject someday, I'm sure." There was a bit of sarcastic mischief in the statement as he tucked his hands in his pockets and took a more relaxed stance.
"He's nice and wants to help people, like most of the Antler Crown. I don't learn about the why and the how discussing liquor preferences and hobbies for the next hour, when we'll probably never speak again."
As Riley slid in, he mirrored the smile, "Third chance." There was the incident with the zombie horse, and then the awkward Chatelaine introduction where the pair had booked it. It was cute that they were trying to pretend, though.
"Relax, Riley, no surprises. I'm just mean and have the tact of a naked duck. I'd lean on a cliché and blame society, but frankly it's because I choose to avoid it."
He glanced to Linden trying to drift off from the flame Elemental and the Autumn Darkling trying to work the beaming storybook character. There was an edge of impatience in his eyes, but he let the White Knight do its thing as a walking sound board so he didn't barge into Archie's elaborate get together.
Sometimes it was just easier to be rude.

After carefully walking up, Firebringer awkwardly stands with the group, waiting till Solomon may or may not say something. She tries not to look too much at Riley, as pretty as they were today with that wig. And that outfit. And the everything... Still, she gives a tiny nod to them and then to Kai.
Then there was this awkward feeling of maybe she misunderstood the look. What if she is just walking over here for no reason and gets herself into needless shenanigans? What if? What if? She tried to shut up the annoying voices and shake it off. If it is nothing, then it's fine. It's totally fine. What's the worst that could happen? ...Actually, she didn't want to think about that.

"You know, as they say, third times the charm." Riley hadn't even considered earlier as a second chance, but here they were. The honestly blunt answer from the Knight landed with mixed results. It was intimidating, yet there was disarming humor to his words. It gave the moth something to work with at least.
"Well, you're at the very least honest. I'd wager more so than many." The moth chuckled slightly. They couldn't help but notice the meaningful glances at others at the party. From their vantage point, the exact people of interest were hard to tell, but it seemed The knight had something he wanted to chat about. But he hadn't disarmed Riley. The twilight dancer gave Kai a glance as if gaging the Polychromatic thoughts on the interaction.
Soon though who Solomon had summoned became clear. Riley flashed Fire a smile, trying not to show any signs of discomfort about the unresolved issues of Imbolc. "Hey Dani," they chirp in an excited tone. "How's the chocolates? Before we jump straight to politics and religion"

Kai simply bounced her eyebrows at Riley, choosing not to add anything to that particular line of discussion. It didn't take much to see that Kai had no difficulty with Solomon's perspective, even if she was far nicer about it than he was. Philosophically, the pair lined up well enough. Firebringer made her way over, and she gave her a wave. The remark about jumping straight to politics and religion earned a chuckle. "I mean, you haven't kicked anybody into a memory pool, sir. You're not that mean," she laughed before turning her attention to Firebringer. "Dani! How've you been? Been keeping up with those closing drills we worked on?"

Sauntering away from the dessert table, Linden headed for one @archie Hartmann. Their wine glass had more than a technically polite pour in it and a bit of pink was on the tips of their ears.
"Holding up? Seems like a good turnout."

“Linden! It has been an evening - good turn out and interesting mix to say the least. Chocolate is holding up so that is the important part. Wine? Maybe have to check.”
He chuckled and winked as he clinked his own glass against the Ogre’s, which was running row on his own choice of white.
“How about you? Finding friendly faces I hope.”
He lifted a plate and on it was a selection of sweets and offered Linden some. Primarily dark chocolates.
“Alright now - humor me, random question - You are enjoying your wine, but drink of choice? Is it Whiskey? Because everyone in town seems to be gaga for Whiskey.”

Linden simply smiled in response to the question of how they were doing, and took a sip of their wine. A large hand gently waved away the chocolate's on Archie's plate. "I do like a good whiskey, but in my heart I'm more of a tequila person. I know how that sounds." They offered little more by way of explanation than, "When I have extra cash I like mezcal."
"What about you? I'm kind of imagining... hmm..." They rubbed their chin, looking intently down at the Fairest. "I feel like you'll be offended if I say you seem like a gin person."

“Well when we are done here if you aren’t too tuckered out I am thinking 1am taco’s and I am sure we can have a spot of the good stuff too.”
He gave a ribbing motion at the Ogre as he placed the chocolate down. There was only so much chocolate one could handle so the Fairest understood as they too were reaching the limit - though in his simple mind the mention of Tequila was already beginning to make him settle on post event Mexican. A hole in the wall taco was likely what it would take to unwind
“And I have to say - you are a regular Sherlock Holmes, because you pinned me right down with that one. Though I am an animal, I do like my gin with hints of other flavors. Citrus or sweeter flavors hanging in the background really just do it justice if straight - or there are some wonderful mixes. If not that I want the fruitiest cocktail.”
“Had a chance to walk the lights yet? It is completely charming - for as charming as cactus and lights can be.”
Archie had entered into a pledge with Linden thus far, and already had made a decision to get out and get to know them a bit more at some point, probably bring Riley out and make it a whole outing. Maybe some sacrilege would be involved.

Solomon blinked at Riley's compliment, seeming to be genuinely surprised for that half-second. At Kai's comment about pool-kicking, he sighed inwardly.
"The Knight Commander of the Chevaliers of Sirius is well known for his explosive temper, yes. The fact that he answers to Dame Mary is one of the charming oddities of our Freehold that weather time and reason."
Both the Polychromatic and Bright One immediately shine the spot light on the small framed fire Elemental that reminded Solomon of a pipe bomb. "You're Danica, I take it," he said. "Last time we spoke, the situation with the ranch was being debriefed." His attention briefly flicked to Rowan; the one she had arrived with in tow.
"I see you two are still working together. How has that been going for you?"

Fire rolls a little forward and back on her heels, and arm across her waist holding her other arm, "Oh. Yeah. Chocolates are pretty great. Uh, but watch out for the coconut. It's nasty. Like, I like it in certain cases, but uh... yeah. heh" She wasn't trying to be awkward, but she was. Seeing Riley, being next to Solomon who... he kind of scared the shit out of her. All of that bubbling judgement. It was like standing next to an ultra paladin and you're pretty sure they aren't the lawful stupid kind.
"Been pretty good. Definitely been practicing. After I get a few more tricks up my sleeve, we should have another go," talking about training made her a lot less nervous, she relaxed a tiny bit, "I think I have an idea what I'll be working towards."
And then Solomon addressed her and she bit her tongue a little bit, "Y-yeah, you can, uh, call me that." She lets out an awkward laugh, "Rowan and I have been good. We uh, found some common ground and are working pretty well together now." She gives a wee smile before her eyes go over to where Rowan is before looking back to Solomon. "But yeah. Uh, how have you been, sir?"

"Busy. An individual was recently triggered into a volatile state while their motley member was Hedge diving," he tilted his head, "They decided to attack their Fetch with a nail bomb package, and hit the well meaning neighbour instead. Didn't want Porch Pirates to steal their mail."
Solomon followed the Elemental's gaze towards Rowan. "What have you two been working on?"
If it involved her working with a Fall courtier without a Pledge and a volatile reputation, it was the Knight's business, obviously.

The Darkling didn't know what made this situation more uncomfortable. The way fire reacted to them, The non-plus attitude towards horrific violence, or was it the topic transitioning to Firebringer and Rowan's partnership.
Quickly Riley began to feel that they were an interloper in this situation. Their eyes flicked between Solomon, Fire, and Kai for a moment. Solomon was not the easiest to be around for sure, and Fire didn't seem that comfortable. But Kai was here, and this all seemed like...summer business.
"Well" the darkling spoke up. " I should check in on Linden, and leave ya'll to it"
Riley shot Fire a glance that lingered for a moment. Before turning to Kai and Solomon with a warm smile.
"Excuse me"
The moth made their exit towards Linden and Archie unless otherwise stopped.
