The Twilight dancer sat across from the beautiful Winter Princess. Riley themself had recessed for the occasion, striking as always, but something about their presentation seemed ever so off. The button left undone, a loose jacket just slightly lopsided. To most it would be nothing, a simple mistake, but one so stylish as the Moth, these small errors spoke to a large issue.
Riley sat silently for a while, their hands fidgeting in their lap as their eyes are fixed towards the wall sconce that sat just over the booth of the bar. They could hear the buzzing of the filaments of the light, growing louder and louder and louder. Rising to an unending crescendo of background noise.
“Are you alright?”
The words lassoed the moth back into solidity of time and the moment. THeir black eyes dart to the speaker, Sedna. Calm, and impassive as always. Riley flashed a flirtatious smile as if nothing had happened.
“Quite Ah’rite. Thanks for askin'” they say softly.
Glancing for a moment to Worm who sat far off. The Oath scribe gave the two space for the exchange of a secret out of respect. But after the negotiations with Golden Boy, he was not eager to leave Riley alone with the Winter court, even with their better standing.
“And?” Sedna prompted slowly.
“Sorry. Lost in thought. Listenin’ to the breathin’ of the room, have you ever listened to the whispers of light? Or the humm of a glass? They hold more secrets than I ever will I reckon”
The moth leaned forward onto their elbows.
“But you're not here for their secrets, you're here for mine.” The Moth winked playfully, seeming more themself than the moments before.
The secret on their tip of their tongue had been weighed and measured for sometime. They had a few close to the chest, and this one stung to give away. It felt like a betrayal of ethics, Riley had no idea how this information would be used, but at end of the day, this secret was the least valuable to Rileys efforts in the future. All it would cost was the sting of guilt.
Finding their conviction, Riley leans forward to Sedna. From an outside observe they would mistake the exchange as a bold display of flirtation as Riley leaned across the table to whisper into the Winter Princess’s ear.
The Moth revealed what had happened the night that Mitch broke his oath.
