Though the reigns of the High Seasons had waned, Ivory found herself experiencing a certain comfort.
The Pale Dragon had spent the last few hours at Apollo Athletics helping with the usual paperwork, chatting with Kai, and even helping in small ways at the barn. She couldn't move hay bales, but, hey, she could organize some tools at least.
The change in pace was refreshing, in a way, allowing Ivory to reflect on recent days in the comfortable silence.
This time last year had seen Ivory anxiously rise from her isolation as a Spring of little note and no credible influence. However, with the help of others and ultimately developing a belief in herself, she had risen far quicker and higher than she had deemed possible even just twelve short months ago.
She had grown her family, gaining a sister of a sort in Kai, who had been perhaps the most prominent and constant sources in bettering herself.
With the Pale Dragon's assistance, a charity, scholarship, and community fund were established and running well, bettering the Freehold as well as greater Las Vegas in the process.
Ivory was also instrumental in the establishment of a community hollow through the aid she rendered to Sir Chugunkin, a distinction she shared with a few others. Nonetheless, even if she hadn't done so alone, it proved she was capable.
Even Apollo Athletics itself was born from the efforts of a collaboration between herself and Kai. Though the Wizened seemed unsurprised by much of this success, Ivory was, inwardly, stunned by the revelations of her ability. Her years with Pendragon, while among the greatest comforts of her life, saw Ivory largely in a backseat when compared to her more seasoned husband, even if the pair treated each other as equals in private. The reality of that situation had weighed heavily on Ivory for years after Pendragon's death, but, seeing the fruits of her labor blooming, Ivory was finally beginning to understand her fears regarding her capability may have been misplaced.
Certainly, life was far from perfect. Ivory had made missteps along the way, most abundantly with Anthony, but these rifts were healing and the Pale Dragon was confident they would be stronger for it given time and understanding. However, Ivory herself was... remarkably stable. Ivory enjoyed a positive reputation all told and, now being a vassal to a Knight who valued her expertise and included her within his entourage, she now had the security she had craved for so long.
Eventually, Ivory knew that the time might come years down the line that she would be expected to pursue a higher office and greater responsibilities. However, that time was a good ways off and Ivory was content to wait. The Pale Dragon had earned the right to take stock in what she built and be content with it. It also meant more time with Anthony to repair the rifts she had created. Given the increased stability of things as of late, Ivory was optimistic things would work out. She'd give everything she could at any rate. Anthony was worth that.
When the day's work was done, Ivory eventually moved to the Pasture at sunset. Leaning against the fencing Ivory watched the horses graze and move about the pasture as the descending Sun cascaded rich, orange rays against the sky during its march below the horizon.
In that moment, all of Ivory's senses were at ease and her mind acknowledged a single truth:
Life was good.
