Riley’s expression isn’t terribly hard to read - which takes Eis back. A bit. One might have said something similar concerning Archie, after that one particular sideshow. If this is a trend for Springs, they’re in trouble indeed.
“Well. The two of us seem to have a challenge ahead, don’t we? Neither of us are killers and there is killing to be done. Although…” she lets her gaze fall out to those surrounding the duty board. “There are plenty of others here more suited to the deed. And there are plenty of ways to ensure their success without bloodying our own hands.”
Eis can imagine this sounding lazy or manipulative, as she lays it out. But she doesn’t particularly care. She gives the Dancer a once-over, from head to toe. Considering her conversational companion for a moment. As one might look over a used car before deciding to buy.
“I’m sure there are other things you’re useful for.”She says, as if her assessment could tell her that.

"a challenge indeed. But helpin' doesn't keep our hands clean. No need to kid ourselves. " Riley says as they adjust their weight, crossing their arms.
The Darkling noticed the once over and raises an eyebrow with a smirk.
"I help cause trouble and distractions, it seems. That and entertainment. The same coin, I guess. I doubt my preformative skills will help this evening."
The Bright one shakes their head.
" But you are right, tonight I have an opportunity to do somethang to help dig me out of this hole. Like it or not"
Riley glances at the event seeming to be looking for something or someone before looking to Eis.
" I have something to fix. I imagine that you got somethang to prove huh? Being your season and all. Archie spoke highly of your academic skills, those gonna help hunt spies?"

Oh, I've no doubt of that. She stores her private jest away and meets Riley's smirk with an indifferent shrug. She could always chew on that one later. Over a book and some warm tea.
"Prove?" Eis shakes her head, letting out a half-hearted chuckle. "Far from it. I've no ambitions. And I could care less what anyone thinks of me." Which is almost entirely true. With just one exception. Unbidden - and frankly unwanted - her eyes trace a quick path to a certain 'popular' Gravewright. She quickly breaks her glance and returns her gaze to Riley. Hoping the Moth is none the wiser.
"Archie is kind, and all that. And I am an academic. But I'm more likely to con a spy out of hiding with luck and a few drinks than my wits alone." She seems genuinely amused, as if mulling over a humorous memory. Eis' face digs up one of its more pleasant smiles, complete with a crinkling around her eyes.
"This thing of yours... to 'fix'?" She starts, eyes narrowing slightly and voice dropping to a more conspiratory tone. "Don't waste your time with it. The Freehold needs garish distractions as much as it needs drunk old shrews." As if to drive the point home, she salutes with her horn of ale wine.

"Well, hopefully, these spies are heavy drinkers," The moth says with a smirk shaking their head. They didn't quite catch the glance off into the crowd. Instead, their own eyes sought the board again.
"I'll take your advice under consideration and all." the Darkling says slowly. Uncertain about the Fairest intentions. The Brightone Glanced across the crowd for a moment and looked back to eis.
"Careful where you place your kindness. And Ya might wanna stoke that ambition, light it aflame. If you don't find a motivation, someone will give you one"
They raise their glass and take a sip of their wine.
"Excuse me...it seems things are movin', I 'd hate for the festivities to start without me"

Eis' smile dwindles at the repeated warning from Riley. They're not wrong. It is Eis' own modus operandum to take care in placing kindnesses. Close to everyone she's reached out to ends up in trouble... despite all her intentions. Fate itself conspires to prove her right, over and over. How many times will I open myself up to be crushed again? The thought is bitter and erases the last vestiges of warmth from her face.
"By all means." she says, dismissively. She has nothing more to add to the ostentatious Moth. She averts her gaze to avoid any awkwardness as Riley makes their way back tot he boards. She should be doing so, herself.
