"Well, I was going to go with the beard style. It has aspirations to 'man of the mountain,' but yeah the coat. Well, also the hat. Right, there's a whole lot pointing in one direction."
"Yeah, managing your sun intake can be a bit of thing around here. You also have to keep an eye on your water, in more than one way. Round these parts you can get flash floods that are no joke. If you are ever in a valley and there's wind and clouds doing their thing, keep a weather eye for paths to higher ground that don't go through gullies or well worn paths. The paths and low points become impromptu rushing rivers that will wash you away. Never had to worry about that in the Outback, then I landed here and learned a thing," he offered with an over-the-top sagely voice, making sure it was both received as a genuine warning and not lost in a weird sense of competition.
Trying to keep the conversation from getting to weird with the talk of being eaten Gavin retorted, "I'm sure I'll somehow end up tasting like chicken to something down the line." It was punctuated with an unsure laugh.
"Hello Victor, I'm Gavin." He took his time carefully maneuvering his arm into handshake position and allowed the Chimera to make the last move toward contact and then matched his movement to minimize the risk of harm. "Taking your life into your hands, yeah?"

"Outback! You coming all the way from the other side of the world then? I'm just from the other side of this grand old country. Didn't land here through the Gentry Express now did you? That's how I got here. Cheaper than a plane ticket for sure, but I could have done without being lost in the desert. Nearly turned into a modern mummy!"
He laughed, though this one was a bit more bitter than before. For his first few months in Vegas, Victor had been known in the freehold primarily as that man hauled out of the dessert, burnt pink and nearly desiccated out in the sun.
"Seems you've learned more than me about the wilds out in these parts, and I've got to hand that to you. Adaptation is a fine skill for a man to have, and one of these days I've got to drag myself out to face that damned sun again. Can't hide from the bastard forever."
He looked up, squinting at the ceiling suspiciously as if the sun was just overhead, mocking him for his defeat at its fiery wrath. If the Chimera had taken this as a competition, he was clearly unbothered to cede to Gavin. The following comment about chicken prompted a wry grin
"I'm sure those talons of yours will give whatever tries to make a meal of you one hell of a time. My best defense is that I probably taste of sawdust and armature wire."
There was a short pause as Victor looked down, recognizing that Gavin was making quite the effort to not accidentally cut his hands open. He grasped far less tightly than was his usual habit, playing along to make sure the Beast's efforts weren't in vain.
"Gavin! Always nice to be able to put more names to faces. And don't you worry, I've risked more things in the pursuit of being polite."

"I for one am glad that you have decided to make an appearance. Not only because I've been enjoying our conversation so far, but for selfish reasons too." A playful grin appeared on his face matched by an equally playful wink.
"I'm not much of a fighter myself. I usually try and talk my way out of a bad situation. If that doesn't work...then I go poof. As we saw in the competition I was in, there are creatures out there that can spot you even when you go poof. So, knowing there's another Onyx out there with a good shot makes me feel a whole lot better."
His attention temporarily shifted back over to the assignments, hoping that not everyone who was going on the mission was going to be as elusive as he was. With any luck, an Ogre with Whispers of Morning Glory would be tagging along with them, and would bring along a friend who can land a solid punch or two. The mission assignment advised them that humans were going to be able to see them so they needed to be extra careful.
While he was glancing over at the assignment board, he caught a fleeting glance of Eis looking his way. He raised his arm to wave at her and then shifted his attention to Blaze once more.
"I--yeah, I feel you there." The smile on his face started to falter as he thought about the implications for the humans the Gentry had enslaved.
"If I'm being perfectly honest, I'm worried about the humans who can see us in their dreams. They are likely all twisted up and will attack us if they see us. It might be a dream fight but they could get punted somewhere unpleasant if they die in the dream or are forced to wake up suddenly."

Firebringer had to consider for a long time what they were going to do. She had a lot of choices and a lot of ideas on how she could enter and how she was going to act, but the moment she enters, all of that goes out the window. She feels isolated, alone, cold. She takes the time to listen around, try to gauge what all she had missed, see who was there, figure out what she was going to do. Hopefully she wouldn't get too many sneers of attention given her disgraced and courtless nature now, but maybe she'll just be ignored more than received poorly.
At the very least, the Elemental was prepared to blend in, dressed in a black tank top and black jeans. Perhaps for less blendy things is her wig, but she needed something to cover her head tonight. She didn't have the energy to deal with revealing her head and she'd at least be less recognizable this way. She's got on a wavy, collarbone length, light silver wig, the kind that reads more goth than old person.

Yuan decided that whatever Eis and Riley were getting into wasn't his problem. He could have jumped to the rescue, but the fear of getting caught in the crossfire outweighed his bleeding heart.
Instead, he looked around, keenly aware of how few people had signed up with Loki. With just Henley and himself, the Playmate didn't like their chances. His eyes swept over the crowd and noticed a familiar face - Victor. That was as good a place to star as any.
Pushing 'Holders aside with his elbows, Yuan made his way to the Autumn Courtier and... whoever was with him. The feathers on his temples and hair frilled as Beast recognized Beast and he stopped in his tracks. There was a very distinct aura of Predator coming off of the other person, making him wary and urging him to keep some distance.
"Gentlepeople, if I could have a moment of your time?"

The playful grin and wink took her entirely by surprise, a feeling she tries to conceal as best she can. Maybe that was just Lucas' way - flowing through life with this effortless charm, having no more gravity to it than the wish of a 'good day' an average person makes. Maybe. But the Elemental still analyses it all, looking for a clue of what it truly meant.
"A little selfishness is nothing to be avoided." She says, trying to match the grin with an equally effortless smile of her own, although much more reserved "And we both know that sometimes *disappearing* is the best for everyone. But if I can serve my Court or the freehold, I will."
Everyone knows how Winter is - 'Prepare Your Farewells' is not just a saying. But the Onyx Court does not abandon its place in the panoply of Seasons without grave cause, and that means neither should she. Blaze listens to Lucas confess his worry about the upcoming task and thinks for a moment before answering.
"And would they be better off if their possession was to continue? The poisonous influence of the Gentry must stop, so that it doesn't spread and endanger us and the mundane population of Las Vegas. If the safety of those unwitting agents can be ensured, effort should be made to make it so. But if not, misplaced compassion shouldn't obscure the good of the many." There's another pause, and the Sprite looks a bit abashed for a second, before squashing the expression under a mask of neutrality "I'm sorry, that was entirely too harsh of me. Your concern does you credit, Mr. Chevalier. It's a rare enough thing to see it in this world."

Was that petrichor he smelled? Oren opted for something he would have called drab. Work clothes. To everyone else, it was this noncommittal affair. It was neither fitting or bulky. It simply sat and made you wonder what he could hide in its pockets. Autumn made him want to hide. In scarves and thick coats. In the heat of something dark and spicy. For his tongue to be alight with something that made him feel alive, and for no one to see it. It was something for his bones. A private joy. A quieter one. The colder months made him picky. He supposed these so-called Sleeper Agents would be the lucky few. He did not think often of the Old Country. In the everyday there were things that were very, very loose reminders of it, but the world lacked the richness of those Hills...those Columns...those-- Lucas Chevalier...
The only name that mattered. How convenient. Oren supposed he could call himself lucky too.

Once everyone was settled and caught up, Queen Uriel emerges with Icarus behind; her crown the saintly halo still radiating with the last flares of Summer, and fully armoured in an ensemble that was riddled with strikes and cuts, molten light filling the cracks. Her face was shrouded in a crimson hood, features obscured by billowing smoke. The Magistrate of Nightmares moved to flank her— light next to shadow.
"In the shadow of Dog Days of Summer, we prepare the passing of the Crown with the Feast of Mabon. The Dying Light heralds the Hunt, and we gather to answer its call. The blood of our endless war imbues the wine, and the spirit of rage blesses one last charge into the night." She presents her hand, in which Icarus slices with a ritual dagger. The wound is molten, causing the fountain to light into a white flame.
Icarus speaks in another language, taking on an otherworldly quality as the authority of the Season of Fear. He presses his hand into the fountain, and the wine runs black, converting the purity of the flame to a felfire. A loud cheer is taken up by both the Fall and Summer court, becoming a feral roar as it echoes through the shadows possessing the room.
Loki goes first. He dips one of the horned chalices into the flaming fountain, declaring the Chevaliers of Sirius and the rest of the war party under a new oath for the Ashen Hunt. The mark is a known privateer ring working through Avowed proxies entrenched in the cartel. The volunteers lift their goblets in a toast, and when it’s drunk the Pact is sealed:
The flame spreads through your chest and crackles into black veins, causing yourself and those around toto take on the facsimile of skeletal war paint, eyes catching the light in the same manner of the felflame.
Loki wraps the thick Cold Iron chain around a gauntlet covered hand, and leads the rest down one of the dark corridors of the Hedge, the other Team Captains rallying their own War Parties.
Quietly in the corners, Onyx courtiers are tapped before they take up their Oath for an unlisted Target...

Take to the skies, and let hell rain down upon those who would stand against them.
Rabid in his eyes, Henley moved to follow the force of nature wielding furious iron.

Riley moved away from Eis, rejoining the Festivities. Their eyes scanned the crowd seeking out a known member of the winter court. Golden Boy, Cailleagh, hell they would take Fawkes but they doubted the Elemental would be around these days.
Spying Firebringer across the way, Riley was about to raise their hand in greeting but paused as Queen Uriel took stage.

After letting Riley go on their way, Eis makes her way to the board and quietly adds her name to the 'Spies of the True Fae' board. Noting more than a few names ahead of her on the list. Hadn't she said something earlier about letting others get their hands dirty? She allows herself a private smirk.

The Beast's metallic quality turns to ashy grey as fire courses through his veins. The harsh shadows of the Dying Light make his features appear gaunt and sunken as he follows Henley.
Time to let loose the Dogs of War.

The Fairest's body language is open. The mist from his mantle continues to gently roll outwards from his body and it does make any attempts to obscure his expressions. As Blaze studies his body language and reflects on his seeming, she gets the sense that the Fairest enjoys using social means to connect with others. In fact, she even picks up on a flicker of excitement from him that stems interacting with another member of his court who seems affable. The Silent Arrows aren't exactly known to be the most sociable bunch in public.
As he reflected on her response there was a small sag in his shoulders. Blaze's response wasn't new to him. The "Greater Good" was a morality they've all been forced to adopt in some shape or form since they were kidnapped by the Gentry. Before he has the chance to respond to her she offers him an apology.
He started to tell her an apology wasn't necessary but his words fell into silence as Loki began his announcements.

Aster Blau, serpent of Summer and survivor of Chico, was already at the coronation, stationing herself near the edges, but not before placing her name on the list of Loyalist hunters.
The Beast needn’t wait long before she is spurred to action, the coming of Uriel easily capturing her attention as she and the other volunteers were called to join Loki. The aloof serpent follows suit, lifting the goblet a lot and toasting with the other hunters.
As with the rest in her war party, Aster would follow the force that was Loki.
