Perceptions were everything.
But we still lived in reality.
Sitting in his office was the printed and bound collection. Words weaved by an inspired mind, though perhaps for all the wrong reasons from what the intention had been. Regardless what was produced was for lack of a better term fantastic.
Archie remember the moment when bonds had snapped. He feared what had happened and only had that confirmed when the Summer Knight came to their door. Though, that wasn’t the only news he had brought.
Could ones heart be heavier? Last feelings and words being so viceral and venom laced because of situations that could have been avoided. There was no making amends or finding a common ground, they were gone too.
What was couldn’t be undone so there was only what one could do.
Perceptions painted one picture, the reality was different. Archie lost two people he had cared about that day.
A Mitzvah was a way of processing one's grief as shouldering the task of ensuring the right preparations were made and honors were done accordingly was a service to those who had passed. It helped to give purpose and duty in what could otherwise be a vacuum.
For his family, the duty was without question. Beyond that it was a matter of seeking the proper permissions. Knowing that the duties had been passed to the Knight of Rains seemed, while remorseful, more of a formality. It wouldn’t fix anything, but it would be a weight off the heart to at the very least perform this Mitzvah.
Perceptions made things difficult. He understood the initial trepidation, the uncertainty, the attempt to make sure that this wasn’t some cheap ploy to earn brownie points. He understood why the Knight of Rains would rather not. The Chatelaine was willing to prove it wasn’t fleeting.
His first thought was Mitch, but was wary this would all feed into the notion that this was about something. Instead he reached out to another Bishop, one familiar with the Knights circle and would lay out his agreement to sacrifice for the community as a sign he was not grandstanding.
If this wasn’t enough he would leave it to the Knights discretion.
