A being forged of glass and light strode into the grocer. She might have fit at the Very Pretty People party going on here, but frankly, nobody looked amazing after ten hours of hard labor in the early Autumn sun. Kai wore steel-toed boots, a black tank and rough jeans speckled with road dust as she made a beeline toward the aisle where they sold things like bottled water and Coca-Cola. One of each was purchased, and she found her way back to the front...
...where the Lost were.
She gave a nod to the others from a respectful distance, the colors beneath her skin shifting to an orangey-red as she cracked the top of the water and got to hydrating.

Tanner seemed to wince at something unseen.
As the oldest of the motley passed the walking mood ring, his rabbit ear twitched as he sidestepped, despite Kai's precaution with distance. The Beast flushed red from obvious instinct causing him to be blatantly rude.
He returns the wave with a hitch of the wrist,
"Yo. Saw you at the party, I think," he managed, trying to repair the first impression.

"Umm, don't use Tik Tok... but yeah!" she pulled out her phone, giving her Insta handle @riotready . "Do you want to come to our place, or go somewhere?" the Fairest ventured, retrieving the ice cream again and seeing her motley member engage someone else from the Freehold. She watched for a beat, before turning her attention back to the talented songstress.
"We rent a place where most of the alumni are, and a sorority house. It can get a bit loud, if that isn't your scene," she explained. Sometimes the Lost weren't great with crowds or noise, especially the shit students with time, money, and hubris can get up to. "Aello usually keeps to herself, um, she's like...fresh off the boat. Hasn't declared her major yet." Cinder added emphasis to the statement, making it purposefully awkward to indicate she wasn't talking about courses. The harpy indeed didn't show any signs of seasonal preference. "Tanner's trying to get into a prestigious branch with research. Golden Boy's..." she trailed off, thinking, "Got his own thing. Sometimes a bit of a culture clash? Foreign exchange student, grew up on the other side of the border."
The other youth with serpentine features offered a fanged grin despite the distance, as if overhearing. He oozed cockiness, already eating food that wasn't paid for yet.

She'll probably need an occult - mundane dictionary, because the shiny ghost is truly doing her best to fit cryptic references whenever she could. She plays with her phone. The familiar bleep of a new instagram follow. "@riotready?", she repeats with a smile. "Sure, your place, if you will have me", she shoots Tanner one last look. "Let's go. Tea, my treat?"

Cinder hesitates for a beat, though more from breaking off from her group than the other Fairest triggering any flags for hesitation.
"Yeah, sure." The paid for ice cream is put in the scaled boy's hands, before returning to Titania. Kai gets a quick wave when she notices what Tanner's up to.
"Where do you usually get tea? Or do you need some suggestions..."

Kai gave Cinder and Titania a little wave as she turned her attention to the hare with a smile. Cues were read automatically, the never-ending whirlwind of emotion that she constantly rode from person to person giving her more input. "Yeah, I reckon you did," she said with a pleasant smile, offering a hand for a shake. "Kai Rose. It's a pleasure. What's your name, man?"
It was okay for them to be normal people bumping into each other at the supermarket.

"There's a place in Chinatown. It's called LaPostté. You'll love it. ", she follows the Will O' Wisp with her eyes. "It's close to home" Once she's back, she locks her arm under the girl's own, "Aren't your friends coming? Oh, I didn't even introduce myself. I'm Titania, originally from London. I'm a singer... well not right now. But I'm going to be a star, soon I mean. Not in the aspiring Hollywood actress working as a waitress kind of way. I mean, I'm hopeful, but not that deluded. I'm really really good at what I do", the two floaties wave in unison as she speaks, "Nothing wrong with being a waitress. We had house managers, you know?", and away she drags her.

Tanner seemed to relax a bit when Kai didn't show any indication that she was annoyed. You know, like a normal interaction. Despite the chuckle that eased his tension, his handshake was surprisingly strong. "Tanner, thanks. Good to see an upswing with you guys," he mentioned, fiddling with his sleeves again once the hand was dropped. Summer was smaller here than normal, despite the desert lending itself to a relentless beat down of heat and fire. Hard to recruit for a vanguard when the Freehold didn't see a lot of invasion issues.
Golden offered a thumbs up as the groceries were tossed on the conveyer, somehow managing to make it seem sarcastic as he dropped the empty bar wrapper along with everything else. 'See? It's being paid for.' The Beast smirked as he shook his head.
"Yeah. Uh-" his ear flicked as Cinder was dragged away by the siren. "Okay, then. How're you finding Vegas?" He asked, attention back on Kai.

The gorgeous Spring princess strolled off with the girl, dragging hints of concern out of the Beast... but his arms were particularly at the forefront of his mind? Weird. As his attention slipped from her for a moment, she glanced down at them to catch a glimpse of why. "Happy to be here, honestly. I get the sense things are pretty stable, which I'll never complain about. You been around long?"Noting the kid's concern, she flashed him an understanding smile and muttered under her breath, "You want to stick with your people? I don't mind a walk."Golden earned a little wave, a flash of various colors trailing down her arm in greeting.

"She's...actually pretty capable of taking care of herself," he admitted after a sec, as if to tell himself. Brightones could explode, and she was up the chain when it came to the Court of War. "She'll probably text us as some point."
The jackelope gave himself a small shake, walking towards the younger pair before the conveyer is finished, handing Aello his wallet. That's when Kai noticed the gauze, and a healing pattern indicating more than just stitches. Aello gives Kai a reserved smile and a polite enough 'hello', while Golden waved back and leaned against the wall away from the bagging area.
"Been here for four years now," he said, "Almost as long as him." Tanner was indicating the Winter courtier, who didn't even appear legal drinking age.
"Almost," Golden chirped from his perch, brushing the mess of shimmering hair from his face.
"What about you?"

It wasn't for the girl's sake that she was offering the walk, but hey. She flashed an understanding smile to the Twilit Page, then turned slightly to open her stance to the group as a whole. Good lord, they were young - a reminder of Fae cruelty. Children got taken. Lives got ruined before they had the chance to begin...
...a quick eye caught the gauze, and she realized that perhaps the ruining of lives had started sooner. God. The kid wasn't doing so hot.
"Just a few months. Enough time to get a place and a job, but not much else." She picked up a six pack of Diet Coke off a stand and carried it lazily in one hand. "Nice to meet you two. I'm Kai," she said to the other two. They seemed on their guard, frankly, and it was a stilted conversation with the Autumn kid to begin with. A broad smile crossed her face, radiating a certain approachable trustworthiness as she sought to set them at their ease. "So what do people do for fun around here? I see a lot of work and no play... you know. Except for Buck's crew. Then it's all play, all day, but even regular folks like us need a balance, am I right?" She chuckled.

Kai does the rounds of an artificer of feelings. As casual conversation flows, she tests small boundaries and cues that the average person normally overlooks in the slew of social exchange. She ignores Tanner's flirtation with death, carrying on without so much as a pause of the eyes. He seemed very focused, but twitched like a student that drank way too much espresso to get through his paperwork. The Autumn courtier was surprisingly pleasant once things started rolling, engaged and approachable, though not offering much in terms of his own world. It was clearly a raw topic, but Jesus Christ was he smooth at redirection. He did open up about his aims to join a prestigious guild within the Autumn Court, but his neural makeup put him at an extreme disadvantage that he was gunning to overcome. Apparently the only hobby she could ping was that Cinder had dragged him into running a tabletop game for them.
Aello frankly came off as someone only just now warming up to the idea of community, spending her time on the edge and keeping distance beyond the norm, but volunteered chatter. The harpy's eyes locked on quick movement, and the feathers in her hair and along her neck and clavicles raised whenever the Summer moved within touching distance of her motley. She was scared of losing something she had just discovered, and was still wearing the instinct of the Beast. With someone who likely hadn't spoken a word in years, Kai bridged the divide by splitting up the drinks, taking her time and giving the teenager easy topics to respond to. To most people, she probably just came off as edgy and aloof, still developing experiences to talk about in the first place. Girl was already ride or die. She had taken to knitting and astronomy. "I like the meaning behind the stories," she explained, twitching her fingers as her hands mimicked the twinkling sky, "Reading the environment can tell me more than the stuff you read."
Golden Boy was an obvious shitbird. Whether it was malicious or not wasn't really part of the package. He was too smart for his own good, and knew it, threading the edge that he was a wellspring of weird esoteric knowledge that could only come from someone who wasn't raised with anchors. What could be read as OCD was little charms and superstitions he wove into the environment. He only followed the rules of Reality because there was a math to it, that he constantly had to be reminded of, or slowly work out on his own. It's like he never grew out of the phase of a toddler literally questioning every goddamn nuance to politeness and societal expectations, though his bulking was silent, and only through the eyes. The Fairest got away with most of it just by being fun, an overall entertaining entity. He cut lines, refusing to wait on a crack in the linoleum. He took without asking, because the item was more needed by himself in the moment, and he paid for it in strange gestures like swapping affects or leaving endless cash. The Wyrd was an extension of himself, but he wasn't fully realized in it yet. Aello clearly worshipped him, Tanner a suffering older brother.
Dangerous.
Weirdly honest.
He had immediately taken a liking to Kai in a fashion that marked the dragon for what he was: barely out of his teens, and lacking boundaries. They were apparently already fast friends in his book, personal space folded in half, poking at her to look at something he had noticed. The naiveté was a little alarming, given his reputation of being one of the Freehold's go-to experts in acquisitions.

Two question marks appear at the sides of her head. She stops dead in her tracks, squeezing Cinder's arm perhaps a bit too hard, but not hard enough to leave a bruise on her prized friend. Was she being rude? The Bright Ghost's motley was there, and there was another girl too. Seemingly an acquaintance. And she had just come and stole their thunder lightening, monopolizing her attention. What if they already had a plan? "We should wait for the others. Maybe they have something in mind", she juts her chin at the teenager and the crystal woman.

The lengthy chat with the Dawnbreaker crew completed, the Wizened said her farewells, taking numbers and leaving hers and whatnot. To Tanner, her overall message was one of encouragement and support for his aims. To Golden Boy, she was pleasant and playful and not judgmental about his tactical acquisitions. She showed deference to his knowledge of the arcane, giving off the impression that she thought that was super cool.
But Aello? She got something special from Kai.
"You know, I... understand, more than you know, about reading the environment..."
She gestured to herself, isolating the crystalline colors that moved with her feelings, as if to make a subtle point. Perhaps as she looked, Aello would see teal as calm and gold as appreciation... or a budding respect.
"You've got the eyes of someone loyal. A real protector. That's a huge gift. Don't be a stranger, all right?"
She flashed the girl a smile and said her farewells to the group.
