As soon as Lucas felt the oath between Riley and him break, he immediately invoked Heart of Ice to prevent himself from drowning in a tidal wave of emotion. There would be plenty of time for tears and hurt later. Right now, the focus was on damage control. In fact, once the ice hit his heart, he was already formulating ways he could turn this into leverage. He had turned down the contract, contacted Eurydice without needing Riley's help, and he was trying to make it a beneficial arrangement for the other parties.
[Text] Sedna, I need to speak with you right away. It's urgent.
After sending out the text, he gives it a couple of minutes, and then calls her.

"What's the matter, Lucas?" A familiar voice called from the receiver. She sounded concerned, at least.

"Good evening, Sedna."
Lucas' tone is cordial although it is completing lack in emotion or any kind of energy.
"I wanted to update you on a troubling development. I had made a personal Pledge with Riley Sorsa to assist me with getting into one of Eurydice's performances. At the time, I had offered them knowledge in exchange for learning a kith secret from them. They wanted to share with their motley and one other person, who I assume was their partner, Danica. In the end, I determined that protecting Eurydice was more important than learning the kith secret and instead I settled on their silence."
He paused so the Knight would have a moment to process what he was sharing.
"I ended up warning Eurydice without needing their assistance. We later agreed that because we did not assign a purpose behind getting me into the performance, Riley would still arrange to get me in. What I had hoped to do was use it as an opportunity to cool the flames between Afterparty and Ricochet. Eurydice was hungry for information that would confirm Afterparty was not going to target her motley any more. I thought I could trust a Darkling who has spend time in Winter to be discrete, but my trust was misplaced. Moments ago, they broke our oath.
I had agreed to help them in turn. There was nothing in the pledge that required silence on my end. In fact, the agreement came down they could not share anything without my explicit permission. Which was meant as a safe guard to keep track of the information. I had not intended to trap them with it or manipulate them. However, after the events of Beltane and the oath breaking, they've trapped themselves in this situation."

Well, Lucas certainly was the busy Fairest.
"Taking point on all these issues to sew good will? How lovely," she noted. There was a bit of a pause as she made a sound of confusion,
"Um...'Trapped' themselves, Lucas?"

"Yes, trapped themselves." He replied plainly.
"They asked me to look into something for them that was tied into another oath. When they asked me to look into it, I could feel the sympathetic tug as they were given a warning that they were treading dangerous grounds. They broke an oath and therefore gave power over them to someone who knows another one of their secrets. Wouldn't you say that's trapping ones self?"

It sounded more that Chevalier got what he wanted, but utilized the Oathbound to force control over a continued reliance so he could pat himself on the back for 'looking after them.'
Oh dear, did little Lucas have hopes to rekindle something?
"I suppose they don't prioritize your political maneuvers with a dangerous motley enough to remember your needs of discretion. Did you provide them with the information they wanted from you, before they betrayed you?" It was an odd choice for politics, but resentment can run deep with the Lost where they made rash decisions. Cutting him off from his proxied hand-holding once they had what they needed, or cutting him off once they realized he wasn't useful to their needs were her two assumptions.

"No, not yet. I had started to look into the matter and I was planning on following up with them to see if there was any more context I could get to help narrow down where to start researching."

"Is this a separate Oath that you need to seek this information to the one who has used you? They broke the covenant, by the sounds of it. You don't find it strange that this incident coincided with Riley meeting with their Knight, Sir Chugunkin?"
No, he wouldn't know about that she supposed, but Sedna did. "You do not think their Knight would have more investment in getting his vassalage in line, when they are warring with his Queen's allied resources? I don't think Riley needs you, Lucas. So what are you going to do now?"

"Huh."
Lucas made a soft grunt of acknowledgment to Sedna's updates. The information was news to him. However, she was painting a clear picture with the information she was passing along to him.
Everyone was looking out for their own interests. Whatever their desires were, especially among the Verdant court, were going to come first.
So, the big question was, what did he want?
When his emotions were frozen out like this, he was able to remove the tainted lenses his depression, anxiety, trauma, and self-doubt to get a clear picture of his inner motives. All he was doing was running around trying to fix other people's problems. The problems in the Freehold weren't going to stop because so many of the Freeholders were deeply traumatized with limit support from their leaders. Their leaders were too busy playing their secret reindeer games. With the recent disastrous events, those reindeer games were going to become even more secretive which would cause more hopeless free falls.
He couldn't fix everyone's problems but he could become a leader who helped shape the attitude of others. There needed to be a stronger voice that pushed against the political machinations that treated the lives of humans and Freeholders alike as chess pieces. If the every day Courtier had more confidence in themselves, they would better be able to navigate the dangers living in Vegas came with. Did Necropolis not craft him as a Fairest, empowering him with magic born of the Crown? He rarely, if ever, used it. He spent far too much time calling upon contracts that caused him to fade away.
"I'm going to prove you wrong, Sedna."
Lucas dropped out of his iced safety blanket so he once again sounded like himself.
"I'm going to give myself time to feel whatever it is I need to feel, then I'm going to become a catalyst for change because something needs to fucking change here. Decency is not something that should go out the window in any court as we rise through the ranks. Second step after giving myself whatever time it is I need to decompress is to focus on creating a motley. There's too much going on here for anyone Freeholder to juggle. I don't want to get tangled up in any more oaths with other Freeholders who don't have my best interests at heart or hell, care about my interests on some level."

"Sounds like a plan, Lucas... Was there anything you needed done about Sorsa's behaviour?" She asked mildly.
"What blessing were you looking to retain, darling? Your effort to provide diplomacy should warrant at least a little attention."

With how miserable the past couple of weeks had been, hearing Sedna express gratitude with actual weight behind it aka he was going to get a reward of some kind injected a much needed shot of energy into his wary emotional state.
"No, I'll handle things with Sorsa. If anything changes because of their Knights involvement or whatever, I'll keep you updated."
He responded sounding genuinely grateful at Sedna's offer for assistance.
"Thank you. I was hoping to learn the Darkling's Blessing for Light-Shy. In time, I'd like to earn the Ogre's blessing for Whispers of Morning. But with us not having any Sunbanishers around and the possibility of Twilight being messy from the failed experiment, the ability to erase myself from the mind and recordings seems especially useful for survival and spying."
