The Hunter of Longest Day initially came out in the eighties, age slowing down with the pull of the Wyrd. His personal life was kept mum, and those who dug wouldn't find much—his hobby was his job. He didn't have friends. The going rumour was that he was a man out of time, and was clinging to anchors that didn't exist anymore. The Summer monarch at the time had sanctioned the use of Crown, and Solomon had been secured as a detective with LVPD since. The office was spartan, aside from a severe iron cross hanging behind the desk. This had likely caused an argument that was promptly lost, and apparently the Fairest didn't need a clock, or a window. Policies on smoking were also ignored, though the ashtray was meticulous and only housed the current husk that left his lips once Kai Rose knocked on the door. Black sclera with smoldering points blinked as he motioned for her to sit, the ashen skin was gaunt even around his hands as two folders were deposited from drawer to desk. The Mantle weighed on the room, making Kai feel like she had just been called to the principal's office for some unknown shenanigans, and she was about to get reamed for it until she gave up her conspirators. "Thank you for coming in." They both knew she didn't exactly have a choice, not without consequence. "Normally the Constable would handle this matter." He didn't elaborate. The Knight exhaled as he saw the empty space behind her, scratching his jaw as he mulled something. "You won't be working by yourself." Oren had received a vague invite, in hindsight he should have been more precise with the newer Elemental on what the proceeds were. Dealing with newbies wasn't normally on his docket.

Oren practiced his lines. Hello. Hello? Hello!
He considered the power of saying No. I would never debase myself to such a level, scurrying amongst the rats and the unwashed!
He changed his objective. How about...Yes? It is my solemn duty to serve. You have my word...
These were two extremes. The real challenge was landing somewhere in the middle. That sounds...great!
I'll do whatever I can!
Forecast called for rain at around six. Can we do nine?
He stretched his hands. Stuck out his tongue. Ruffled his hair and ran those dextrous fingers through every strand. When he finally walked through that door, only peeking his head through the threshold, his eyes caught the rays of sunlight, diffusing and reflecting as if captured by stained, prismatic glass.
"Hey."
Natural. Genuine. Perfect delivery.

Solomon wasn't an easy man to hang out with. In fact, the Knight's potent Mantle made you feel like a criminal who was about to get squeezed for a plea bargain. That was okay, though; ultimately, as long as she stayed on the good side of Summer's law enforcement, it would never be directed at her.
"My pleasure, Sir Solomon," the Sculptor replied with a solemn nod matched by an equally solemn wash of dark blue flowing around her eyes. She glanced at the folders on the desk, then raised an eyebrow for a snap as the Elemental joined them. "Ah."
A crystalline hand reached out gently for a shake.
"Kai Rose. Nice to meet you."
Once the introductions were done, she returned her attention to the Knight.
"All right. This is a matter of discretion, I take it?"

What lady is that, which doth enrich the hand of yonder knight?
She was beautiful. He took the hand with his own porcelain ones. The way the light caught the union was like the sun peering through ocean waves. "Oren. No last name."
"What sort of matter is this?"
The mentioned of discretion made him smile. Cloak and dagger espionage and shrouded sneaking. What whispers would he catch? Who would he wear?

"Discretion is an apt word," Solomon grunted, not quite looking up from his notes. "You're both new enough where there shouldn't be too much of an optics issue. Frankly, this meeting didn't happen."
The first file is cracked open, with a quick glance summarizing a suspected homicide.
The second file summarizes a raid on an address in Naked City. The Hunter waited for the other two to review and say their piece, measuring basic investigation competence before going into further detail.

Kai pumped the shake once and moved her attention to the files that were being cracked open. She didn't know the Elemental - but then, given that Solomon had brought him here. The Knight of Scales was not going to give a case like this out to someone who he didn't think would keep their mouth shut. Either that, or he was testing them to see if they were worth giving truly sensitive matters to... ...in either case, the Wizened knew where she stood. The first case had obvious things popping out of the top. Dead body, clearly set ablaze. Youngster, flagged a record, mentioned a potential killer or relevant party. Someone did not want her talking, but did not mind the notion of her being seen to die. Went to a nearby Sev. North half an hour later - a pickup, maybe? Went back to the party. Called mom. Died. Great. The relation to people in the drug trade and the strange vial caught her attention, and it was the commonality with the second case, which involved holy-shit levels of criminal activity that was deeper on the gang connections than was obvious. The Feds were all over it, and some weird vial full of pale pink liquid had been found. She thought about it more deeply for a minute, scanning the evidence a second time. "Okay. Drug's the common thread, and the kid was connected to people connected to it. We chase the drug, we find the responsible party. That's my opening theory. But I figure you wouldn't be calling us in on a mundane matter. You figure this is related to our kind?"
She looked up at Solomon as she asked the last part.

The words were blocky, stale, and sterile. There was no love here. No passion. To read it was to lick the rusted iron: bitter and cold. Although he could not make heads or tails of the fine print, and had no grounds for sublime deduction, he was literate. A vial with the stopper fused to the glass? He pored over the papers again, he even put his nose to the page. He drew blanks with every blink.
"Weird. Can we see the body?"

"The body?" Blink. "Do you have a means of extracting evidence from a corpse?"
It wasn't said in a mocking way. Rather, she was genuinely curious.
"The location of the scene where the body was found would also be really helpful, and if it were possible, even the burned car itself and the scene of the DEA bust... I can look back, and we've got a really good window here that I can use to narrow it down and see if I can identify anyone. It just depends on access. Are the cops all over that stuff right now?"
A crystalline hand coated in the colors of curiosity brushed the file where the girl's death was described.
"It's very odd that nobody looked into who or what Williams was worried about in particular. It's too obvious a thread for a trained cop to miss, so it makes me think maybe there's a witness, maybe...?"

Solomon blinks at Oren's question, "If you feel the need to dig deeper than the report, be my guest." He produces the ID of a coroner for the Elemental to mirror at his leisure. "If I hear about her being in two places at once, Winter will already be dealing with it."
At Kai's question about the site of the murder, he hands her a pen and notepad before directing her attention to the closest address listed in the file. He didn't seem annoyed, aware they weren't "professionals".
"I'll save your time with the DEA bust: the weapons were taken from our own operation. It's ongoing, so the evidence is being held, and that sort of artillery going missing won't be taken lightly. It's in the hands of the mundane. The Arrayer is right pissed," he said, leaning back in his chair as he crossed his legs. "Ricochet doesn't know who it was, yet. I can't predict how they would respond, and their motley's political spread is a goddamn mess."
The intimidating Fairest sucks on his teeth as he looks to a window that only exists in his mind's eye. "The chemical you can get, though. Shouldn't be hard to find on the street. The car is with the homicide unit." Another ID is added to Oren's pile, this time a detective. "You can have a chat with it, if that's in your repertoire."
The red pinpoints in the void sockets flick back to the pair, "William's estranged dad is a snitch, and her friends apparently figured that out. The name was scrubbed, because a leak can get him killed. Four months ago, a meth lab run by the Crips was busted by the tip of a Mister Teegan Williams. As a thanks, he's quietly working as a mechanic for the LVMPD with an application in witness protection. Seems to have been stalled and locked. Someone didn’t want him to get scuttled away, and it wasn't us. As for why this is our problem," he exhales, fishing a new cigarette and taking a moment to light it.
"I don't know why Summer's arms was hit. Frankly, I think it was a dumbass mistake, or someone has a problem with hubris. The other thing that's setting off alarms is the drug itself. The Constable kenned it - it's infused with Glamour. But it's being circulated to the mundane," he growled. "We haven't been able to determine the effects just yet, if anything. But Winter is going to turn our territories upside down and aggravate tensions if this doesn't get nipped in the bud."

He took both ID cards, running his fingers over the glossy plastic, digging his nails into the section where the picture would sit. He wouldn't scratch, he wouldn't dare. He looked at the face and imagined what it would be like to have it; to see it reflected back in a mundane mirror, while its facets would be bent and twisted every which way in his mirrors. Her. They. It?
Who was The Coroner? What were her wants and dreams?
The Detective...well, this last one perplexed him some. Wouldn't that be a bit redundant?
He looked to Solomon. He, with his dark and tempestuous eyes of ochre and brimstone. A smoldering coal red hot like an ember launched from the mouth of a volcano. Surely he is the Detective. Through and through. Those eyes could stare holes into him. Would Oren crack a mirror; melt glass into soft putty, if he were to wear Solomon's face? His eyes?
Too hot to handle.
"Snitches get stitches.", he muttered under his breath. It said so in the script to South Side of Sidhe. That was a rough translation of the original Akkadian...or at least, that what's it sounded like out of the mouth of one Hadrianus Emerson Tumult the Two-Sixteenth.
"I can talk to them, if you want. Or get a closer look at that burning wreck of a woman and car. I bet that vial it pretty interesting. It seems weird enough to warrant our attention. Don't know why. I really don't, honest. I just have this feeling, y'know? Ever get one of those? I think they call it a hunch? Y'know Sherlock Hargitay? Watson T. Kirk? Columbo Poirot. That's it."

Kai took the note of the relevant location where the car had been found and where the body would have been. That was their starting point, a real easy place to gather a lot of important information right up front. The fact that Summer's arms had been taken and the Arrayer was furious about it was simultaneously a problem for their Court and an opportunity to make a friend if they fixed it... she'd have to make sure Oren knew it was important for a bunch of reasons later, when the Knight wasn't there. She noted the location and approximate time of the DEA bust as well, figuring getting a mirror image of what happened might be helpful. If the cops had mentioned where they got their intelligence, that would save some time and risk. Getting some of the drug would be a good help, too... especially if someone was dropping Glamour drugs into the market.
"All right," she replied. Looking to Oren, she flashed a half-smile at the Elemental's quirky manner. "Crime scene first, and go from there? I figure getting the drug won't be hard, if we hit a few bars."
It was a simple enough place to start.

"Fantastic. Sir, do you have a pair of sunglasses I could borrow?"
It was very important. Vital, even. Crucial. This immediacy was presently flashing across his features.
