He had been a fool.
Archie Hartman had known nothing, nor what to do. Follow your gut, and hope it works out. What good had hope done? It only threw his own failures and faults into his face, punishing him for the mistake of thinking he knew what he was doing. There came a point where the normal motions began to make sense. Much like the act of writing a grocery list you didn’t appreciate its value until you were going down the isles and forgot what you needed. Archie had not realized the value of vassalage and the result was night of his own creation, but not through a lens he could control. Thus, he had to cross the Rubicon and swear.
The lessons he had wanted to learn. The search for his own strength. This had all led to the conclusion that he would approach the Knight of Coins. He felt driven to do so when he was left bleeding at the hands of the Winter Court.
But then things only grew worse. It was clear he was misguided. It was clear that it was taken to the extreme. It was clear it didn’t matter what he wanted as the only option was bending to what was demanded of him if he wanted to have any future. This was the moment where he could have still run away. Slunk to the shadows, slandered and ruined and lived as a disgrace. His fate is his own making.
This time he was left bleeding at the hands of the Summer Court. But this had put those he cared about in harm's way. His own faults now hung over Riley and Linden like a dark cloud by association, by their effort to help him. He would rather they had left him to suffer if it had meant their own absolution of the situation. But that just wasn’t so. They showed him a love he almost couldn’t comprehend.
When the bullets hard ripped through his flesh, he wanted to grow stronger for himself. So he could make sure that he could prevent that from happening to himself.
As he was laid to waste by a crimson goliath he soon decided he would not allow whoever did this to hurt Riley or Linden. Thus, he couldn’t simply run away and let his association linger over his family. He couldn’t lash out with unfettered venom for fear of reprisal targeting them.
The Fairest had only caused undo suffering to those that mattered most. If not for himself he owed it to his family to rehabilitate from this.
Reaching the VIP section the right names and reasons were dropped to earn an audience. The reason for his attendance is crystal clear. If he would have had this was the knight that he would pledge himself to the Knight of Coin, for himself and for the good of those he loves. So he could reconcile who he had to become.
The Chatelaine would endure, and no one would hold them back.
