There was no way in hell Kai Rose was going to do anything other than solve this shit. Her conversation with Solomon had set things on track, but she had to know the truth of what happened here. That girl had died due to Spring's negligence, cruelty or both. That meant it was time for some Totally Valid Search Warrants to be served -- Loki-style. She had passed along word of the human targets, asking the Elemental if he and his could keep an eye on their comings and goings and keeping track of any Spring Courtiers spending time with them.
Meanwhile, she would look to Autumn to prove themselves. As far as she was concerned, within each of those three people was a ticking time bomb. After what had happened with the Revenant crisis, this was a chance for the Leaden Mirror to redeem itself.
The meeting happened in a far-back table at a brunch spot in the Stratosphere Hotel, high in the air. It wasn't too busy that morning, thankfully, giving them plenty of room to see any wait staff coming.
"All right. Grab your mimosas and let's get to business. I've touched base with Solomon and appraised Loki of what we learned. They've got eyes on the people at risk and will likely intercept anyone trying to fuck with them. We don't know who did this yet, but we know that Komizucha's crew craft the right kind of lives that power this thing. Doesn't make them guilty, but intercepting any would-be guilty parties in the near future is Loki's work. We can't be everywhere."
She gestured to the lot of them.
"Our job? Figure out how to disarm the fruit and reverse things before it all happens again. And that puts this squarely in y'all's wheelhouse, Gavin and Eis. We need to know what Callahan knows without kicking up a big fuss... unless someone has a better idea that can do what we need to do in a time-sensitive way."

Lucas was finally starting to feel "human" again once he had some food in his system. Whenever the group got together, the Fairest was noticeably cool towards Gavin. There wasn't any kind of open hostility displayed but it was clear that while Lucas was willing to work with Gavin, he wasn't particularly thrilled about it. If anyone checked in on Lucas, they would get a "I'm fine" or "it's fine" and he would shift the conversation back to their plans.
At Kai's question, Lucas shook his head.
"I agree with having Team Fall connect with Callahan. We've squeezed out everything we could possible squeeze from Spring via the socializing and schmoozing route. That was a hell of a party."
He leaned back into his chair, sipping his drink thoughtfully.
"The only other lead I can think of us I could reach out to Fawkes. Fawkes and Eurydice were at the party and the two of them have all kinds of connections with the mortal world. I dunno how much he'll tell me, but I don't see any harm in me reaching out to him since Roger was helping us earlier."

Eis arrives in very understated, practical attire. Khaki pants and jacket. Something she might wear to work on a typical day. Possibly all to convince herself that she's not going to let another night like that happen again. Over a plain orange juice, she nearly gags when Kai mentions mimosas. Does Kai think she's 30? She doesn't even acknowledge Lucas' comment about the party.
"I'm not here to offer dissent. If anything, I'm interested in understanding how the fruit works." That may not be exactly what they want to hear. Best to clarify. "If I understand it, I might know how to disable it. And this knowledge may be useful in the future."
Whether Callahan is innocent of wrongdoing is irrelevant. Probably. Maybe. At any rate, she's glad both Lucas and Kai seem to agree to let Autumn handle Autumn on this matter. It would keep the focus on solving their problem, instead of finding someone to blame.
"Are you up to it, Gavin?" It's a reasonable question. Not just because of the recent 'festivities' and any lingering effect they may have on Gavin. They'd taken big risks in getting the information out of the Spring courtiers. The concern that getting closer to the answers puts them at even greater risk is real for her. "The only victim in this scenario so far had been an accident - or a cover up. But if this truly is the result of foul play, the parties responsible will almost certainly resist being exposed."

The Summer cop sighed, rubbing her temple.
"All right, cool. So. There are some politics afoot here that are going to matter a lot so that Callahan doesn't say something to the effect of get fucked to all of us. Here's the gist.
I'm Totally Sure that the renowned Autumn botanist had Absolutely Nothing To Do With This."
Kai wink-winked. The realities of the situation meant that if Callahan cooperated, all the shit rested on Spring. If he didn't, he'd have the Chevaliers all up in his grill.
"The ritual isn't happening with these people. The Chevaliers are there, and they're loaded for bear with the law on their side. So, being a Renowned Autumn Botanist Who Totally Wants To Save Lives, Squire Callahan is welcome to tell us he has absolutely nothing to do with the breaking of Queen Philicia's laws that some motherfuckers are up to.
And naturally, if he were to lend his expertise to help you understand how to disarm the hedge fruit bombs that Someone Else Totally Made, we'd be super excited and think Fall was just the best and would have no reason to look further at Autumn because we'd be so very focused on dealing with the Spring perpetrators of the crime.
It might go a ways to easing certain tensions. While it's a fair bet he'd rather the ritual go, that just isn't on the menu and there's nothing I can do to stop Loki from whipping the asses of anyone who tries to kill those people for power. Loki gets his bad guys. The good Squire makes lemons into lemonade and helps us save lives. We stop three murders. Everyone wins - especially those three poor souls the Bodhisatvas have been grooming."
To the point about Fawkes and Eurydice, Kai shook her head.
"One complicating factor at a time, Luke. Fawkes is obsessive. He will definitely dig far deeper than you want him to, and we've already got Loki involved. If we genuinely need them and we can clearly identify a reason why, then let's look at it then."

This was going to be a tough morning. Gavin had barely had a coffee to get himself going after the night before. He ordered the larger plate to soak up whatever else might have still been operating in his system. His mood since waking up had fallen considerably and was somewhat preoccupied with the impending problems with the two gangs whose attention he had unintentionally gained: human traffickers and the other where the relation of a gangster had a six million dollar car to gamble away. There was no way they weren't both serious problems. Luck had been polarized for him and that was not about to change; he couldn't work on either of those problems because there were bigger fish to fry: a murder to solve, three potential victims to save, a conspiracy to uncover, and a ritual obligation to fulfill.
It was that last item that caused Gavin the greatest concern. His companions were very focused on the very human aspects that they had a handle on. They understood the nobler aspects of the work before them, Justice and heroic action. Gavin felt those things too, as much as the others might doubt it. He couldn't find the bandwidth to worry about Lucas being aloof with him, not right now anyway. The others paid little mind to what the collapse of a ritual involving the Sentinels would mean for the Freehold and the turn of the seasons. The Antler Crown had stepped in to forbid the ritual that this crew had probably already stopped. Summer had likely already done enough to ensure the ritual was dead by guarding the approach to the Ritual's only viable targets.
When that ritual fails, what will happen? What can be done in its stead in the time available? Who could manage to pull it off? Gavin didn't have the answers to those questions. Not yet. They were on his mind. Speaking with Callahan would put him in reach of Chunhua, maybe. She might be able to help. It was probably going to be the only angle he could work to salvage this.
"Iron has a pretty good track record of tearing through all things Faerie--like enough to overwhelm the force, not just enough to destabilize--but yeah, I'm down to give Callahan a bit of yarn to find out for sure," he left out the additional motive for going along with the group's agenda. "The only victim we know of, this year," Gavin chipped in.
"Anyone else catch that mystery woman floating around the party with the unbelievably hot ..." Gavin took a gulp of coffee before finishing, "dice."
"Who has her name? I mean I collected a lot of names and numbers, but it's a bit of a blur." He unlocked his phone and opened the camera to cycle through pictures of the legendary evening with it flat on the table for all to see. He stopped on a picture that contained her, at least in part, and slid it forward to grant a better view. "She seemed to be the one richest in fate. So much so she was spreading it around. I seriously doubt I'm lucky enough to walk away with a six million dollar car on my own luck. I got that "I'm flexing to show off" vibe from it all. She seemed to swim around Komizucha and the Bohdis. I feel like it's important to mention that hunch before I get shot for winning that gangster's supercar--I'm pretty sure that's going to come back to haunt me sooner rather than later."

Gavin and Eis leave to Spring Valley for the district largely accepted as "China Town" to follow up with with their lead. With the Chevaliers deployed, the others were free to join their watch with the promise of intense violence if the situation escalated, or await for potential research to deliver a 'cure' to the victims.

Lucas declined the invitation to hang with the Chevaliers. As tempting as the invite was in terms it making more political in roads with Summer, his mind was still haunted by Yasmine's desecrated corpse. The last thing he wanted to do was further traumatize himself by participating in and/or witnessing intense violence.
Regardless of whatever choice his Summer teammates made, at some point he would ask Oren for his number. You know, just in case the two of them needed to discuss anything investigation related.
Once that piece of business was taken care of it, it was time to kick back, and enjoy his brunch. He left his phone on vibrate so he would be available whenever the Scooby gang was ready to reconvene.

Kai enjoys her brunch with Luke and Oren before going to keep her eyes open, giving the Chevaliers over-watch. Autumn could do their part.
