"Uh, this is about deepening my connection with Spring," Linden muttered to Alecto, workshopping their lie as they took a leisurely walk toward the flowers. Nothing to see here, just a couple of tipsy Summers on a mission to commit some minor property theft. They'd give it back. Alecto

Alecto fumbled her phone, "Shhh- shoosh. According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, this blogger has on good authority that a red tulip means a declaration of love and a yellow one..." she grins broadly, "Means there's sunshine in your smile."
Dropping her phone in the grass, she popped a squat in the garden bed, before unbuttoning the cuffs and pulling back her sleeves when she remembered their nice ensemble and didn't want to soil it. A wave of dirt sprayed around her as she tried to locate an early bloomer that was already wilting and producing new bulbs for next season.
"Honeysuckle's for bonds of love, if that's better," she said, face closer to the earth than it needed to be as she squinted in the darkness; she had forgotten the phone and potential flashlight. Despite the antics, it was becoming clear that she was taking the ritual seriously, and had some knowledge of the occult herself.

Trying to act as a nonchalant lookout, Linden stayed standing and kept a weather eye out. But still spoke conversationally down to Alecto, as if this was normal. "That's it, I'm declaring my love for Spring. My motley mates are both Spring, this makes sense- I'm making sure a piece of this event prospers beyond just this one night, symbolically strengthening the bond between Spring and Summer." They pursed their lips, almost suspicious. "This might actually, like, be a good idea."
"Hey, what about that one?" They pointed loosely toward a plant near Alecto's left hand. It felt wrong for her to be the one down in the dirt, trying to fix Linden's stupid problem, but it was also a relief that she was treating it seriously. Their date, in their matching peach suits. A curl of fondness and gratitude squeezed their heart, and they hunkered down beside her. Who cared if someone spotted them, Alecto was fast as hell, she'd get away.
"That's sweet. I used to eat honeysuckle, not like the whole bloom but if you pull out the- nevermind." Holding another tulip's leaf out of the way, they added, "I wouldn't take that from you. Besides, this is much more true to me."

"It's a fantastic idea," Alecto cackled, "Your motley appreciates it, I'm sure." The Beast popped next to the Ogre, leaning as she pressed the bulb into Linden's hand.
"The stem? You pull off the petals, right?" she prompted, failing to dust the wet soil off her fingers. She swapped to rubbing her skin in the grass.
"Ah, shit. I need an ice cube for some water. Good to head back? We should dance some. I think everyone's drunk enough at this point not to mind my wiggling."

Cradling the bulb in one of their large hands, they plucked the petals off just as Alecto had told them to, leaving a tall green stem with the pistil like an alien tower at the top. Something almost like a giggle bubbled out of the Ogre. "Yeah that looks right. Let's get wiggling."
