Colors versus comments were noted and packaged away in the back of his brain. There was a level of appreciation for someone who wasn’t going to shut down in the face of the Court of Desire’s very wide breadth. “Well let me say - if you are looking to make relationships, of any personal kind, you are in the right place. Sure the stereotype of Spring is a six pack and a tumble and there are some people who embrace that to the fullest but there is a lot more too it. The color coding is more of a method to mediate than encourage. Consent is sexy, afterall, right?”He gently motioned towards her own use of the bracelet to highlight his point “The benefit is that being just another Spring bash seems to loosen people up a bit. No need for Winter to stay on guard in case revealing our deepest turmoils becomes a problem, or any of that. Just a chance to go out there, talk, be ourselves, less performance more self. To be metaphorical it is a good chance to plant the seeds you hope to harvest.”He then went on to hear about her Mum’s thoughts on the day time ceremony which made him grin. It must have given off real garden party vibes to get that sort reaction. Probably best they didn’t double down on that theme. “Well hopefully the evening picks up right? And yes, collaborative effort. Riley, Agrippia - who wrote that lovely little prose everyone was greeted with, Ivory, and myself. Apparently it was luck of the draw or will of the wyrd that the Queen chose us. Thankfully as a group we had the resources to put it all together. Now all that is left is to see if people actually enjoy themselves. Hence - “He raised his glass “Enough gin to ease the anxiety so I can maybe have some of that enjoyment too. If you can think of anything to make things more memorable let me know - happy to try and adjust on the fly.”Gin o’clock as he sipped again. “So, you have skirted the sidelines for a while now - anyone you are fancying to talk too? The blue band is an excuse for me to make hamfisted introductions and absorb any of that awkwardness.”

Archie is a verbose guy, Wayland concludes for the second time since meeting the man. Which isn't strictly a bad thing, or a good thing for that matter. Just different from her. She has to push back a little to create space for herself in the conversation, or else he'll fill it like a gas expanding to fill it's container. "I honestly wouldn't mind a six pack and a tumble," she responds when the talk turns to relationships, "Or something more. Or something less. I tried not to come in here with too many expectations about how the night would go. I'd rather be... open to the possibilities."
She takes a small sip of her drink, a frown sharpening her brow, "Though, hearing myself say that now, it makes me sound kinda passive." Her tone implies that this is not something she wants. She didn't get all dressed up just to be a wallflower. (Again.) Her people-watching takes on a more active aspect now as she scans the crowd, hearing Archie's generous offer and deciding to capitalize on it, at least in some fashion. "Do you know who's over there talking to Riley and Fire? By the bar, there." She's had her eye on the bar since it became a focal point of tension, and noticed that several people she's met are in the area.

“A lot of people don’t so you won’t be lonely - but I admire someone who can adapt. I’m more a Gin and Lounge type myself. And passive? Do you see yourself as an initiative taker?”
Good to get a read on that. A quick glance was levied as his eyes settled on the scene at the bar and what exactly was going on. A friendly chat, but he didn’t know anything about the new face so when all was said and done, go to the face you can read. What was Riley feeling about this meeting? Was it the Stage Dad kicking in? Maybe. “Well the wonderful Space Princess is Ivory, a fellow Emerald, one of the four who helped us plan things. Had plenty of input.”
Not really. “A really charming young woman, carries herself well. Good to see her let loose and shoot for the stars this evening. Sometimes throwing caution to the wind is the most liberating experience. The other one? I am not too familiar with myself.”
If he got bad juju he was going to have to go over there and shine his desire deputy badge, wouldn’t he? Or maybe just some sharp words. “How do you know Fire?”

She doesn't want to talk about initiative. She doesn't want to talk about feeling weak and unsure of herself, feeling like she doesn't belong in a space because she's not X enough, whatever X happens to be that day. She doesn't want to talk about the trauma wrapped up in those feelings, reinforcing them. And she most definitely doesn't want to talk about how being still and waiting reminds her of being an ambush predator, with shiny lures and an appetite for unwary visitors. She ignores that question.
Besies, Archie said something much more interesting. "Space princess?" Wayland repeats with an amused tone, almost a half-chuckle, and a charmed twist to her lips. She gives a rueful shake of her head. "I met Fire when I walked into the coffee shop where she works. Totally random. Or totally Wyrd I guess. She and Rowan were in there, and we had a nice awkward introduction and a little conversation about Lord of the Flies." That seems like enough, now back to that other matter. Her gaze shifts from the group at the bar back to Archie, her head tilting in an interested way, "Come on. Why 'space princess'," she encourages him, a glimpse of teeth visible between upturned lips.

He didn’t like the idea that Fire was still letting themselves spend their time with Rowan. He could see why the guy would want to keep a goon around, or maybe they had a thing? He could see him having a thing for her. Maybe more so now that she wasn’t just following him around like a puppy. Hopefully spending time with Riley would help her find the joys of better company. “Always a classic. I liked the part where it ended and I was done with it personally. Give me Pony Boy and the Outsiders any day of the week.”
He would stick by his pick, it had a way better movie. “And come on, you don’t see it? Barbarella.”
He had used his time while speaking to retrieve his iPhone from his jacket pocket and was already in Safari, searching and pulling up some classic cover art. “Totally a space princess vibe, If I had to pick which planet she is a princess of? Mars.”
It fit, as Ares was Mars, and was known as loud and quick to turn heel. This represented both of his most significant interactions with the Dragon. However, he would go about pushing rumours yet. “Plus if you like the novelty of old Hollywood dialogue, Ivory is your gal. A regular Ann Sheridan.”

"I'm not gonna argue," Wayland assures in a sort of 'you're stating the obvious and anyone who disagrees with us is wrong' tone, as Archie gives his assessment of Lord of the Flies. Awful book, and she's had enough conversations about it lately. It gets to take up no further room in her head. She waits patiently, taking another small sip of her drink, while he fishes for images on his phone, and leans closer when he directs the screen her way.
"Barbarella?" She straightens and returns her gaze to Ivory. "Okay, I can see it. To me that outfit says Blade Runner or Tron or something. Like what the 90's imagined you'd wear to the club in the dystopian cyberpunk future." Which is not a bad thing, not at all. She swings her attention back to Archie, "Not that I'm an expert on movies or anything. I don't even know who Ann Sheridan is." Maybe she could go over and ask...
"But now you gotta explain why you picked Mars."

“Too much Skin for Tron, not enough light - and please, don’t do Blade Runner dirty like that, though fun fact we do have a unicorn around if we want to ask him what he sees in his dreams.”
Blade Runner reference, smooth Arch Man - you nerd.
“I can be onside with the cyberpunk future, but I would make the argument that it is actually the 80’s imagining what we would be wearing three years ago. I don’t know if that makes the entire ensemble ahead of its time or nostalgic.”
Wayland was walking a thin line as she risked dragging the Fairest down the rabbit hole that was film. It may take her entire evening.
“Well - I have a lesson ready for you on Ann Sheridan, but I think neither of us are drunk enough to really enjoy that.”
He wasn’t going to inflict that..but...why Mars? He could give the real reason, toss in some mythology, but the comparison was really unflattering...Maybe something about how much water was on Mars, and how thirsty it made those science types? Overly complimentary and say she’s out of this world?
“Red’s a hot color, but once you meet her she’s a little colder than you’d think. You get used to it though - and I am sure some people find the whole thing endearing.”

Okay. So whatever else Archie is, he's a nerd. That's okay. Wayland's pretty much a nerd too. Sure blacksmithing is a pretty physical profession, and Wayland is a pretty physical person, but without the science behind it you're just beating on metal and hoping for the best. Besides, nobody can be an active member of the Society of Creative Anachronism without being a nerd, it's in the bylaws.
"The eighties, huh? Well, I hear they're making a comeback anyway. Which I suppose makes her outfit nostalgic and forward-thinking."
As he mentions sparing her a lesson, she tips her glass towards him in thanks. Rain check on that one.
Then the conversation turns back to Ivory. She notes he says 'some people' find her endearing. "Not you, huh?" She asks guilelessly.

“We walk different paths but I have a respect for how she does things - they definitely deliver results so that says something, right?”
He shrugged about the difference in opinion but props to the success she had. He was on the fence between inheritance or some other means of Shanghaiing her current status. He was aware of her general origin, which he would keep for himself. However, money always made people stick around, which he was sure was part of the equation. “Would you care for an introduction?”

That answer isn't what she expected from Archie, then again she's not sure what she expected. Regardless, he seems genuine, and she accepts his answer with a nod. Joining them, though? Wayland looks back over towards the bar. "They seem like they're having a nice conversation over there. Maybe in a bit," she allows. She returns her attention to Archie. "So, a whole lesson on Ann Sheridan. Does that mean that old-fashioned movies are your thing too?" She can definitely picture him in front of a screen showing some old black-and-white film. wits + untrained empathy to see if Wayland is fooled by Archie in Ostara @dicecord-CoD roll 1 Dicecord-CoD BOT — Today at 9:20 PM @ InvertedMonkey - Wayland rolled 1 dice and got 0 successes. 7

He respected the decision seeing that the crowd may be getting a little large to accommodate them at the moment. Let them settle, have a moment, and they could be the zest that pulls it all together at just the right moment.
“You could say that both Criterion and Vinegar Syndrome collect hefty dues from me. I am currently trying to drag Riley and Linden in for a night in the theatre room to go through the must watch Samurai collection which I have curated. That is getting ahead of myself though - films in general I have an appreciation for, but I can understand the difference between autership and entertainment. I don’t feel the need to compare Metropolis to Iron Man in any serious capacity.”
He nodded before catching that he was going off on a tangent a bit.
“Top three favorite movies? Can be sappy, schlock, evocative, and doesn’t need an order. When I get going I always like hearing what people enjoy, lets us dig a little deeper into the tastes you enjoy.”

She's not sure what Criterion and Vinegar Syndrome are. Presumably some sort of old-movie service? But a samurai movie marathon sounds pretty cool.
"Jesus, man," she answers him, a little shocked, at the question of her top three movies. "Now I'm drawing a complete blank. You know what I mean? Somebody asks you what your favorite book is, and suddenly you can't remember reading any book ever in your life?" She shakes her head, raises her drink for a sip, and then licks her lips as her eyes narrow pensively.
"Lemme see here... Mad Max: Fury Road. Muppet Treasure Island. And Molly's Game." She pauses, then blinks, "Huh. All 'M' movies."

It wasn’t like he hadn’t shot the arrow already and was looking for a way. “Now there is nothing wrong with the letter M, especially when we are talking about Muppets. Plus Mad Max 4 is a modern masterpiece so I mean that is an amazing choice. I am going to go out on a limb and say that Furiosa hit a chord didn’t she? Despite all the official titles and duty, she breaks out of her shell and becomes so much more when trying to help these people. Furiosa is a total badass, can take names and is a person - serves as our core for the film while Max is more a plot device as it should be.”
“I mean I can see some parallels because I know there is more between those ears than metal working - any jim, bob, or mike can see that. What do you do to cut loose? Or do you ever find the time to cut loose? The latter is my problem.”

They're in agreement about Mad Max. Wayland nods and makes a few small, non-verbal noises to that effect as he goes on about one of her favorite movies. She's said just about the same things to other people. And if Furiosa strikes a chord, why shouldn't she? Her story could easily be the story of someone's Durance, in a blasted wasteland of an Arcadia obsessed with Frankensteinian monster-mobiles. It's disturbingly easy to picture Elementals of fire and guzzoline encaged in chrome engines, Beasts behind the wheel, Ogres clambering over war rigs built by Wizened blackthumbs, while Fairest whip primitive hungers into a frenzy and Darklings stalk the places between each fortress of despair. These thoughts leave her as Archie deftly maneuvers the conversation onto another subject. She even forgets that he never said what his three favorite movies are. "Work keeps me pretty busy," she admits, "But I've found sort of a balance. I go dancing every once in a while, when I get the itch. I like go run, or go for a hike. Hit the gym, or the range, or the practice ring. I'm a member of the local SCA, and there are events that I drop in on. That's kinda work related sometimes, in that at some events I'm a vendor, and at others I'll attract a client or someone who needs some work anyway. But it's also just a lot of fun." She sips her drink, eyes going distant for a moment as she thinks of her other interests, "I like to drive. I got a motorcycle out here just recently, which has been a lot of fun to ride. And I watch movies and TV like anybody I guess, read books... I haven't been to a good concert in a while, but I go when I can." She frowns slightly, "You know I've been in Las Vegas for a couple years now, but I haven't really been to many shows. That's something I could be doing." That last part sounds resolved, like she's made a goal and she's going to hit it at some point in the future. "But I did go see the Natural History museum a few months back. That was a fun trip."composure + untrained subterfuge to look cool as a cucumber in front of Archie @dicecord-CoD roll 2 Dicecord-CoD BOT — Today at 9:55 AM @ InvertedMonkey - Wayland rolled 2 dice and got 1 success. 3 9

Departing the dance floor, Kai Rose made her flowery way over to the bar, ordering a rum and coke and glancing occasionally back at Lucas and Riley. She gave Archie and Wayland a low wave, but didn't immediately interrupt. They could finish whatever they were chatting.
The spice was about to flow on the other side of the gathering.
