The Freehold Oath of Las Vegas is simple on its face, but the particulars shift season to season as the laws set out by the High Monarch change.
The base oath is as follows:
Aspirant: "I promise to protect the Freehold and its members from the Gentry and their Allies, and not to work for or with these enemies. I promise to obey the Freehold's Laws, to attend Coronations, and to assist with the rituals of the Wards. I understand that the power of the Wards will not protect me should I leave Las Vegas, and will hold harmless my Monarch in the event that I should leave their protections. This I swear for a year and a day."
Monarch: "In exchange, I will provide you a home and hearth should you wish it, access to gainful employment, the communal Harvest of the Strip, the protection of our Laws enforced by our Officers, and the common shelter of our Wards within the boundaries of our Freehold. This I swear for a year and a day."
It is public knowledge that after swearing this Oath, characters who use their magic outside of the Freehold's powerful Wards suffer incredible harm; this is theorized to be the backlash of hubris, or countermagic of the Fae, or any number of other explanations and theories that are tossed around by Changelings. If anyone knows why this happens, they're not talking about it, but characters are advised openly up front that joining this Freehold does restrict their magic use outside of Las Vegas.
