It was a Saturday, roughly mid-day, and to a moth it was agony. Two weeks ago Riley would be sleeping at this time, or at least trying. Now days not so much, rehearsals and work with the troupe had taken them out of their nightlife habits. The results of which had not been pleasant. Trying to find reasons to be up during the day was turning into a job all on its own during the painful transition period. Linden had received a text earlier on setting up a hangout with a tone that suggested the Ogre had little choice in the matter. We are going to the container park. Shopping therapy.
By the time Linden had arrived at the rendezvous spot. Riley had already thought up a change of plans. "Hey" The moth waved. They were sitting near a fountain, ripped skinny jeans, a tank top, and a large pair of sunglasses. They leap to their feet moving towards the Ogre at their approach. "Sooooo... I was thinking. Ya wanna call Agrippa? Have a queer kid outing at the container park?"

Hands in their pockets, Linden hesitated. Their conversation with Agrippa at Imbolc had been really fun until it wasn’t, and the Beast wasn’t at fault for that. The words that had escaped the Ogre while they were high on the glamour-infused alcohol were like little rocks in their shoes; they could forget about them for a while, but they always shook loose again. Also, this wasn’t fair and Riley knew it. There was no way to say no without lying or bringing up the sensitive topic themself. Evasion wasn’t an option, they would just be hounded to death with questions; honestly that would happen if they lied, too, so that was out. In a punch-up the Ogre would win ten times out of ten, but in situations like this they knew Riley could talk circles around them. It was something they admired, and really got under their skin sometimes. If they were being generous, they could imagine the moth was doing this to help move past that moment. But it was also entirely possible this had the added bonus of entertainment, because as much as they liked their friend, they also knew them. After a long moment of staring stone-faced at Riley, Linden shrugged. ”Sure, why not. You have their number?” Once they had Agrippa’s contact information they went to send them a text, before giving Riley a Look and pressing dial.

Riley tried to keep a bright smile plastered on their face as Linden gave them a cold stare. They had a hunch Linden wouldn't say no, but might hold it against them for a while. Especially if this backfires. " Cool! Yeah here is their number" They whipped out their phone to share the digits with Linden. They hopped back to give Linden the space for the call. Riley would have called themself, but it felt right for Linden to do so. Agrippa and Linden seemed to have been having a nice evening at Imbolc, at least till the end. Knowing their stoic companion, Linden would let that friendship wither out of embarrassment. Besides if Agrippa had been here before Linden arrived, that would just be a real trap. The moth silently and dramatically mouthed "What?" tossing their hands in the air playfully. at the ogre as they gave them that look while on the phone.

The phonecall was short and sweet. As the phone went back into their pocket, Linden repeated Agrippa's coffee order. "Mocha, with as many sugar packets as we can steal, they'll be here soonish. I want a coldbrew, and you're buying." Their pointer finger jabbed toward Riley, but the intensity had already gone from them in the moment Agrippa agreed with their usual sweet excitement. The call was done, things were going to happen how they happened, and there was no point in holding on to it. They'd remember this moment, but not with any lasting annoyance.
Probably.
Nodding to the closest place to grab coffee, Linden gave Riley a toothy smile that dared the moth to complain.

“Great!” Riley beamed both out of excitement, and a good healthy dose of self satisfaction.
The twilight dancer thought for a moment to argue the whose buying. The toothy smile from the Ogre gave them pause, and soon they knew that battle was already lost.
“Fair enough” The Moth shrugged and moved towards the local coffee establishment. After a short wait the got to the register.
“Hey there. One medium Mocha, yup whip cream” why not.
“ One large cold brew...and one small coldbrew, with two pumps of simple syrup”
They provided a nice tip, what it was like living off tips. Moving to the side of the counter awaiting their order, the darkling fanned out one hand and shoveled a large handful of sugar packets into their bag. Than another for safe measure.
Drinks in hand, Riley met back up with Linden, handing over the large Cold brew.
"Rehearsals are kicking my ass"

The Ogre loitered near the fountain as Riley went off to order, taking a moment to themself to organize their thoughts a little. Linden just hated the idea of that conversation replaying in someone's mind while they all looked at flip flops or something. There just wasn't anything to do about it except keep bumbling forward, a thought they had already had several times and would need to repeat several more. Besides, who didn't have a friend who was a sad drunk. They just didn't relish being that friend.
When Riley returned Linden accepted their coffee gratefully, letting out a satisfied sigh after their first sip. It was strong, bitter, and cold; all the best things. "Mmm, thanks. Where d'you fit in with the troupe? Is it more acrobatic than your usual acts?"

It was maybe twenty minutes before Agrippa's figure, pale as ever, trotted over the pavement. It might've been an easy guess, but seeing them out in public clad in a baby blue suit with pink tie and waistcoat made it painfully obvious that the concept of dressing down wasn't something the beast was well acquainted with. The moment they actually caught sight of the pair, Agrippa threw an arm high over their head in salutations, before increasing their pace to a jaunty jog.
"Hope I didn't keep you waiting too long! I threw of the first things I could get my hands on."
They slowed their approach to a walk, breathing only a little more heavily from the effort
"Is there any specific plan for the afternoon?"

"Mostly still dancing, singing, and general burlesque stuff. There are acrobats, but they show more cabaret than their traveling circus show. Still beautiful though. Linden, there are too many beautiful people in that cast"
Riley's eyes caught the incoming splash of bright color and turned waving to the approaching beast. How far did he run wearing a suit in Vegas?
"We have drinks" Riley raised their own Cold brew with a smile. The moth nodded to the to go coffee tray next to linden, where Agrippa's Mocha rested.
"Thanks for joining us. Plan was to chill maybe some shopping."
Riley realized they not spoken to Agrippa in public before, always at some Freehold gathering or another.
"Do you have a preferred name in public?"

From behind the cat's eye sunglasses, the Beast briefly registers the glowing angel-baby and the stomach flipping sensation of Spring. The metallic Ogre loomed like a ringing anchor among the pair.
She takes a sip from the cup of water, without an ounce of shame over the fact that she had taken up a table with her laptop. Six dollars for a coffee? The hipsters could live with the inconvenience. Between the black Poets of the Fall t-shirt and hair pulled back in a hair scarf, she actually blended in a bit. A couple of chains and a stamped dog-tag necklace clink as she leans to read something on the screen, now fading as the battery fought the direct sun.
A polite smile is flashed to those who took notice, though the hesitation was clear in her body language as she tucked the scaled hands into her aging purse.

"That's cool," they mused, trying to fit burlesque into the mental image they'd built of the acrobatic acts. They'd never seen a Cirque show in person, but the ads and videoclips were impressive and beautiful; otherworldly in a way that made Linden's hands itch a little. "And I can only imagine, they must be cut from all that flipping and lifting."
A tiny thread of tension tightened as they spotted Agrippa, but mostly unwound at their enthusiastic greeting and generally wonderful appearance. "Hey, not at all." They almost thanked the Beast for coming out, but Riley had already done that and two thanks was excessive. Instead they handed over the mocha with a smile, waiting for the response to Riley's question before they butted in.
Something caught their eye: grey skin and dark scales, the flash of pointed nails. The woman at the table was familiar enough that Linden smiled back and jerked their head toward the group, a low stakes invitation to join them. To the others, they added, "Hey, I recognize her. We’ve got some friends in common."

"Ah, wonderful!"
Agrippa accepted the drink gratefully, taking a deep sip of the thing before they even quite had the time to process the question asked. They blinked. It wasn't often that they presented themselves in public in such a way where a name was needed, and it took a moment for them to pull the pseudonym from the reaches of their mind.
"Pen, thank you. And thank you for inviting me out!"
They smiled towards Linden, completely oblivious that the invitation had been somewhat coerced
"I admit I have a bad habit of sequestering myself indoors for days on end if no one reminds me to face the sun every once in a while. I don't have much in the way of a coin purse, but I'm glad to just tag along and window shop and provide good company."
At Linden's gesture, Agrippa turned to look at the woman sitting at the table- they didn't recognize her, but for obvious reasons there was no question she was the one being referred to. They offered her a welcoming grin, before taking another sip of the mocha
"Mmm, this is excellent. How much do I owe?"
Unsure as to who paid and not wanting to assume, the question was asked nebulously.

" Pen it is! You owe me nothing" Riley said waving off the beast. They
"Archie hooked me up with a job and a paycheck just came in. I can cover"
The moth glanced over to where Linden had indicated. Dropping their sunglasses to try and get a better look at the lost.
"It would be rude, not to say hello at least" That is if the other lost wanted to meet them. Riley raised a hand at Alecto in greeting from a distance. The Darkling pulled their sunglasses back up to give some relief from the midday light.

By all the smiles being thrown her way, the embarrassment of shooting down a friendly face like a suspicious shut-in won out of any apprehension. With a reflexive smile at Agrippa, the laptop was zipped up in a case before being slid into the purse that was a little too small for it.
Alecto slid her own sunglasses down at Riley, offering a wink before looking up at Linden, "Hey honey, how have you been?" The stiletto nails tapped against the water cup, like she couldn't sit still.
"Handsome entourage you've whipped up."

"Could be some quality people watching, too," Linden offered to Agrippa. They had no doubt the Beast would be good company, but hopefully they'd be getting something out of it too.
They smiled down at Alecto, broad and warm. Sometimes a relative stranger was just what a group needed to keep everyone on their best behavior. It wasn't their proudest moment, using another Lost as a social buffer, but it felt safe to assume Riley wouldn't try anything further with an unknown element in tow.
"Oh you know, can't complain. This is Riley, and Pen." They nodded to their companions in turn. "We're here for a bit of hang time, maybe try on a few ugly sweaters and get made fun of by some teens. How've you been?"
It was a little rude, not to introduce her, but in this instance it felt most appropriate. If Agrippa was Pen in public, maybe she preferred something similar.

Agrippa raised their brows at Riley, swallowing a nearly instinctive urge to protest and throw a few bills their way regardless. Alecto's passive compliment was received with a lightly blushing smile, and Linden's successive introduction was emphasized with a polite nod. Whoever this was, they liked her already. While they had the chance, Agrippa brought the coffee to their lips again- if they didn't take advantage of the moments of silence, there was a good chance that their mouth would be pre-occupied with speech long past the time the drink had grown cold.
