Business sure was picking up, wasn’t it? The Arch man had made sure to make his regular stop by the Fortress of Solitude whenever he found the time, it was an unavoidable ritual. Thought there was certainly a measure of neglect going on.
On the orange couch across from where he sat at his desk there was a pile of frames that needed to be added to the trophy wall. Something he normally did right away but was just too tired to start hanging and rehanging even his most favored accomplishments.
Sitting on his desk there was even a new Souvenir, a chunk of rubble on a wooden platform, just a pure chunk of rock. It was from the Stardust, his favorite Casino in town. He hadn’t been around to see it implode. It didn’t wound him deeply, but even with the ever changing landscape it made coming back...Alien. Good to have a reminder though.
The latest change had been his drinks of choice. Doctor Pep was replaced with straight gin tonight. The Juniper cutting but refreshing, with this particularly brand having an orange zest that lingered on the tongue. It was certainly a treat to sip as he rocked back and forth on the old office chair he had sat himself in.
John Lennon’s voice filled the room from the old stereo against the wall by the desk. Vinyl of course, a relic of the past that was well past its prime even when this junky ass office had been new to Archie. The up beat vocals cut through the otherwise impassive silence.
The man himself though, Archie? He was stuck cycling over things in his head...What could he do better tomorrow, close what he needed too, grease the right wheel. How would he entertain himself, there had to be something he wanted to do. God, so many new or passing faces he was getting know as of late, were his first assessments right, or was he off base? It was a meandering conversion in his own head, no words spoken.
Some people had drinking buddies to vent about this with.
Archie had his Fortress of Solitude, and right now it was just him and John.
“Strange days indeed -- most peculiar…”
