New players often wonder how to do play by post. Here is how we do it here at Dark Harvest.
General Rules
Play and Flow Rules
General Rules
- Dark Harvest is an English chronicle. If you are going to use another language, please post a readily accessible translation.
- Dark Harvest is an adult chronicle requiring players and player characters to be age 19+.
- We expect players to be respectful of other players and staff, and will enforce decency and respectful behavior.
- You are free to read scenes that you are not part of, but please avoid metagaming - that is, using information IC that you as a player know that your character does not know.
- Character versus character conflict is permitted; however, we expect and trust our players to be reasonable and kind to one another, and act with the setting in mind.
- Cheating will not be tolerated.
Play and Flow Rules
- You can play more than one scene at once!
- While we do not limit the number of scenes you can be in at one time, please be reasonable how many you are in so that you don't overwhelm yourself. You'll want to manage how many scenes you are in at one time so that you keep up a reasonable posting rate in your scenes.
- We take turns here. Please do not post more than two posts ahead of the slowest poster in the scene. If it has been a person's turn for more than 48 hours, you can post past them. This rule turns to 24 hours when Initiative is called.
- Dice rolls should be done on the Discord server with a clear label, and copied into a spoiler or quote in the relevant post.
- To be clear, a character leaving the game does not break the Freehold Oath for anyone else. When a character retires or does not return, they are accepted as having moved on. People do not go missing due to retirement unless the Storyteller says so.
- Scene continuity is straightforward - unless otherwise noted by the Storyteller, scenes enter the timeline and 'take place' on the day that they finish.
- Scenes typically close after 30 days. The Storyteller is free to waive this requirement as needed.
- In large-scale Event threads, we encourage players to break off into side threads in the same forum to have smaller conversations while still being part of the main gathering. This allows you to enjoy a faster paced small conversation while still being part of the larger whole.
- Unless otherwise noted, Glamour and Willpower are deemed to be full at the start of any social scene.
- Unless otherwise noted, Glamour and Willpower start at full at the start of a plot. Where plot scenes are connected and fuel was used, the Storyteller will advise you if your fuel refills or not.
