"it would seem that way," their tone mildly defensive as they sat uncomfortably in their feelings. It stung that they thought they could be clever enough to work around the oath of Imbolc.
Riley sighs; they came here for help. They didn't like the vulnerability that came with it, but they needed to do something if they wanted out of this.
"It involved Goldenboy and King Nohoilpi..." they say softly answering worms question at last.

The King of Secrets and a dangerous Arcadian thief? Was that all?
The Pledgesmith blinked, "Oh, the sovereign," he muttered, taking a moment to think and filling the time with collecting information.
"What prompted your pursuit of investigating this...thing...that both of them were involved with?"

Riley eyes trace Worms movement, taking in his response to their answer. They know it wasnt a great answer, that the pit they found themself in was deep. Part of them hopes, that Worm doesnt think it's that bad. Seeking a sliver to grasp on to.
“Stupidity and fear mostly.” Riley says with a soft smile, the self deprecating tone, rings clear as day as the coping mechanism it is. They shuffle in the seat moving their body to subtly face the windows more than Worm.
“I nearly died during the Revenant crisis, two more nearly died due to a breach at Yule, that seemed to have come from Golden Boys room.. When Imbolc rolled around, seeing the exchange…”
They take breath in collecting their thoughts.
“I was scared something was coming, that I had seen a warning sign. I wanted to know, so Ii could be safe when the time came. I didn't know what I was stumbling into”
Of all their mistakes this one felt the stupidest, they could have remained ignorant. Ignore it, and they would be happier for it. Hindsight is a bitch.

Riley could sense sympathy, or at least pity. Despite the wrath of the Wyrd, Worm wasn't incapable of considering where the Darkling was coming from, and what they had gone through. He was doing his best to cool the winces and gentle frowns that could potentially make Riley feel condescended too, or open up the door to a torrent of venting that would get them off track.
"Mhm, survival."
It could be twisted as self-serving and disregard, but Worm was here to be an advocate.
He was worried.
"You sought to understand what they were doing, because Golden Boy is haunted, and the King of Winter is a Gravewight..." he watched for Riley to nod or correct. "Makes sense. Were afraid to approach Golden Boy with questions?"
He didn't bother broaching whether Riley had attempted to speak with Nohoilpi.

“I reckoned i wasnt allowed, given the whole dont talk about Imbolc.”
The Darkling fingers drummed their knee in thought.
“I tried to find loopholes, so I could. See it outside of Imbolc, read the past. I thought i was clever, but it never worked out. So I figured If I had someone look into it for me, don't tell them when I saw it or who it was related to. I got a warnin’ from the Wyrd, but not a break of oath. So i figured I found the way. But as we can see, didn't quite work that way. “
Riley chuckled shaking their head for a moment. They had to laugh, or else they would probably cry.
“Since i have...encountered Golden, but the topic of my oathbreak has yet to be fully discussed. One oath at a time I guess”

"Consent means it is not a secret, but to assume is to pry, you see. If a relationship blossoms at Imbolc, for an obvious example, it's up to the lovers as to whether you are permitted to spread the news to the rest of the Freehold. Like whys, one can be quite excited to speak about the night they had, but the other party might wish to keep it quiet. If you walked up to Golden Boy and asked 'are you comfortable talking about a thing I saw at Imbolc', he could have said something about himself, if he wished. He could not talk about the King without the King's sanction...and so on and so forth."
There's a hidden whiff of frustration that Riley only picks up on as they pay close attention. Worm's brow pinches for a blink as they repeat the idea of 'being clever' in seeking a loophole to the Oath, and a frown that was immediately hidden by the teacup.
"It's not like a Contract. Bending the clause of an agreement requires extensive understanding of how it's all...coded. Mhm! Like the Matrix," he offered, proud at his modern reference. "We all innately understand how to bend our pacts with Arcadian forces, and how to weave people into promises when humans cannot see or understand it. However, bending the intent of an Oath everyone had to consciously agree to, is to nudge the collective code we all wrote together. It's more than twisting the dictionary definition of the word, like in the Fairy Tales. Else, gosh we all would be outplayed by the Gentry."
The term that came to mind was actually 'right fucked', but best to keep professional.
"A warning? Oh, that's quite novel. Skirting the lines and standing on a precipice...Perhaps it was clever, but the Wyrd clearly caught on. Having a third party dig into a secret in a double blind maneuver doesn't undo the intent that you were breaching the King and Golden Boy's right to silence. How would you like to go about repairing this? Am I to send something on your behalf to broach negotiation?"
His hands wringed nervously for a moment when they mentioned they were going to prioritize the problem with Lucas first, which on the surface looked like a simple adjustment of his watch band and a correction of cuffs.

" I never thought of it like that," Riley admits as Worm goes into the idea of consent. Their skill crawled a bit as it started to dawn on them what they had done from that viewpoint.
" I guess, me sayin' I was tryin' to be clever in all this, Is for you, as if someone came up to me and said anyone can take their clothes off." They chuckle slightly before bringing it back to being serious.
" A warning is Novel?" Riley blinks, thats interesting. The moth lingers on Worms words on how they wanted to handle this. Where to even start?
"Perhaps you would suggest I focus on the larger issue with the King and Golden boy." They note aloud seeing his moment of discomfort. Riley had thought the issue with Lucas would be quicker to resolve, but of the two, it was Imbolc problem they needed the most help.
"send something? Humm" Riley chewed on their lip.

"The Oath with Lucas is being addressed with him making his demand and you entering a negotiation," he clarified, "I would not shelve making progress with the secondary offense. The..." he thought for a moment, trying to distill something esoteric into layman's terms. "The involvement of Imbolc's Rite being directly tied to...well...the avatar of Winter by all intents and purposes means that you have caused offense to the Season itself. The Crown creates a bond between the Sovereign and their Bargain that protects us, like an oracle or speaker to a divine entity. When one approaches King Nohoilpi about penance to your Oath, er- the demands might be quite biblical in comparison to a matter between to average courtiers."
There was concern for his client. But he was putting on a brave face. With Riley's reflection, the themes of their Oaths falling under an umbrella of secret snapping to a Season that literally revolves around secrecy was daunting. The recent public display with their duel with Firebringer was a demand of honesty under the sanction of the Wyrd was well, where Firebringer could not expect the same insurance of reward—unfortunate timing. They had to prove, somehow, that they respected the Onyx tenants...while having a history of leaving the court to follow their heart's Desire.
Yikes.
"Golden Boy...I would expect to be more sensitive than your experience with Lucas Chevalier. From my understanding, his background with the Freehold and the...unique...circumstances of his upbringing will give him a rigid perspective in this case. His demand of you will also likely need to be negotiated...for your safety."
Blink.

Riley took a short breath in. A surge of panic raced through their blood, sending a cold chill across their body. They felt like they were going to be sick.
A tiny voice in the back of their mind reminded them of their fear.
If you have no worth, you will be consumed.
They took in another breath again. They had tried everything. Not telling anyone, Not mentioning names, even once they reached out to another person, it was within the winter court. They had tried in action to respect the court, but inaction had failed that. And now? What would the cost be? They think of Bonnie.
Riley breathed out, and in, and out. Pushing the panic attack away.
"I am fucked aren't I?" Riley said with a half attempt at a chuckle.
Looking up from their hands, they look to Worm.
"Delaying it won't help. What can I send to broach negotiation?"

"Are you wanting to do it yourself or for me to draft the paperwork?" he asked, acknowledging the definitive offer before he went about his usual business with serving legal documents.

"Honestly. The help would be appreciated."
The moth said earnestly before adding.
"last few months, anything I have touched has turned to ash in my hands, not an outcome I'd like when dealing with King Nohoilpi."
Their tone was light, but even under the façade of self-deprecating humor, it was clear that reality weighed heavily on the consciousness of the Darkling.
"Thank you, by the way; I am sure I am not the easiest client."

Worm knew he didn't really have enough rapport with Riley to offer a hand or if that was even an appreciated gesture for them, rather his hopeful smile was genuine.
"You are pleasant enough, Mx. Sorsa. You don't owe the world anything, but I am glad you're taking steps to reconnect with the community. Your circumstances don't make you a monster, and quite honestly the nature of the situation has more than enough humanity to recognize that fact once we get things squared up!"
He squinted as he checked a note on his paper, "Hmm. Sooner than later, yes. From my understanding your Oath is due by Yule...?"

Riley smiled slightly at Worm's reassurance. It was small but an appreciated gesture for the darkling. To his question, Riley gave the nod.
"Yes, and it's fast approaching, it would seem."
The moth considered the ramifications of being in Vegas without a freehold oath. The thought was more than unpleasant given the current climate.
