Lucas ducked his head, looking bashful for a moment at the sincerity behind Fire's words. After all the misery the two of them had gone through recently, hearing something so honest and pure was touching. When he looked back up at her the smile on his face was a mixture of shy and grateful.
"I remember when we first met, you were nervous when I leaned towards you. Look at how far the two of us have come since then."
He shook the shyness from his voice so he could verbally demonstrate to how proud he was of the two of them. Around that time Cinderella came to perform their handfasting rite. Lucas reached for Dani's hands, taking the elemental's hands in his own. While her hands were warm to the touch his were cool. The heat from her mein rolled in and out of his hands. Even if the warmth didn't stay the impression of it would remain with him. He glanced down at their hands, feeling proud of himself for a moment. As upsetting as Litha had been when Riley hit him it demonstrated to him that he could keep his word and not use his hands in anger. He could hold onto Dani's hands without feeling any shame or anxiety that he would bring harm to her with his hands.
With that in mind, he found himself no longer caring about what anyone else might think about what they were doing. Let them look. There was nothing to be ashamed of. They were two Lost who had been through hell and back in their own ways. The fact that he could still hold onto the hope of a positive outcome was monumental after facing such insurmountable odds. Their handfasting was his own personal "fuck you" to his Keeper and whatever other horrors were skulking around in the universe.
While the binding went around around their hands, fasting them together, he gave Dani's hands a tight squeeze. Once the binding was in place his hands became warm to the touch as he channeled glamour into them.
"With this binding I pledge myself to supporting you, my dear friend, Dani, for the rest of this week's competitions."

She hadn't even remembered until he said it the way she had flinched when their hands had come close to one another that night at the Denny's. The handshake for their bet. Remembering it now, thinking about how far they've come from that tepid night to the graveyard, to late night texts, and some awful events, to now, it kind of astounds her. Even being the way she is right now, feeling let down and constantly in a pit of depression, this is something she gets to enjoy.
A nagging thought in her mind, of course, is Riley. Riley is going to be pissed or some variation of it. She hopes they'll understand in time, understand why she couldn't come out and say it. It wasn't that she wanted to keep secrets, but she was so afraid of driving Riley away with the way things have been lately that she just couldn't find it in her to bring it up. Now, she knows Riley is watching from somewhere, probably hurting badly. Hurting more than they deserve. She wishes they could have been here participating too, but the Wyrd has yet to forgive. She wonders if Lucas has, but then, how do you forgive when someone commits violence against you? Her mind doesn't want to even begin to go there. This is something special and it deserves not to be tainted by every other anxious thought that floats around her mind.
She holds onto Lucas' hands, squeezing them tightly, the smile on her face was unmistakably joyous. The ceremonial ropes are bound to their hands and the smoke in her mantle flares ever so slightly as she channels her own glamour into the mix, sealing them together.
In return, she speaks her portion of the sealing, "With this binding I willingly pledge myself to supporting you, Lucas, my friend who has been there for me through the toughest of times, for the rest of this week's competitions and the hardships and trials that may come with it." Fire has never been the best at pledges, but today felt even more genuine than the first time she made a motley pledge. This pledge is just the beginning that may lead to that again.
She realizes in that moment that a few sizzling tears have escaped from her eyes and she chuckles a little bit, "I'm not crying, you're crying," she says in a playful tone. "You ready to kick some ass?"

With the rite completed, Lucas could feel the bond between the two of them grow stronger. Not only because of the magic that flowed between the two of them but their willingness to be vulnerable with each other.
"Just about."
Once they were freed from the binding around their hands he opened up his arms to her.
"But first, how about a hug for good luck?"
Lucas was willing to bet it had been a minute since either of them had had a good, solid hug. Seeing the tears in Dani's eyes compelled the Fairest to want to give his newest partner in crime said big ol' hug however he wanted to make sure it was something they were also open to.

Spotting Riley and Archie maneuvering through the crowd towards a balcony, Wayland keeps an eye on them from her spot at the kiosk as she continues people-watching. She’s not sure what to make of either of them, at the moment. Riley fulfilled their debt to her, and she’s not aware of the circumstances of their Oathbreaking. They’ve never been anything but nice to her. And Archie? Well, Archie seems like a decent enough guy, for all that he talks over everybody and steers the conversation where he wants it to go whether she likes it or not. But the accusations against him are serious, and come from pretty high up.
For the people among her first forays to be more involved in the Freehold, she’s found it a little discouraging.
She registers the approach of a Winter courtier with a small nod from where she sits behind her kiosk’s main table. Occupied with her thoughts and her people-watching, Nott’s conversation opener comes as a mild surprise. The Ogre nods again with a small smile, “Everything,” she answers affirmatively, taking a closer look at the courtier now that they’ve drawn more of her attention. “I’m Wayland,” she introduces herself after a beat.

Lucas opens his arms as a means to embrace and normally, there would have been a moment's hesitation, but there wasn't. Firebringer just walks a couple more steps in and embraces him in a long, squeezing hug. Even with the foggy mist of his mantle and chilled skin, there was no discomfort.
She steps back after a few long moments and smiles, ready to take on all of the challenges she can.
It really does put that thought into her mind: there's only two people she genuinely feels comfortable hugging right now, two people she feels completely safe being vulnerable to (her therapist doesn't count) and she's gotta pray that after this she'll be able to keep the both of them in her life because she doesn't know if she can deal with losing either one.

Ivory is present, of course, accepting the public acknowledgement of her part in the stadium's construction with the grace that she felt had become expected of her. Naturally, as the festivities began, Ivory easily slid into the role of arousing. Burgeoning ties with the Summer Court needed to be retained and grown. The dragon knew leaving them to wither in her absence was not advantageous. However, stagnation in her Goodwill was almost as bad... Thus, she moved within the Maenianum summum watched the trials below. Ivory bore a gregarious nature, happy to entertain company old and new as she watched her motleymate dictate the Trial of Archery below. Truly, Ivory was eager to make inroads with the Court of Wrath, paying particular attention to the Summers that chose to approach and engage, though familiar faces were likewise welcome regardless of Court affiliation. Those who did would find her enthusiastic company, she would laugh and cheer alongside them as they watched the trials below. If the company turned to conversation, the Fairest seemed ecstatic about her venture at Apollo Athletics if asked, crediting Kai for much of its success, explaining her own role as largely being business oriented. Likewise, her charity continued to be a point of pride. Otherwise, Ivory seemed content to watch and enjoy the festivities with whatever company she attracted. The Twilight dancer made their way down from the Balcony. Following in their wake was the massive Cerberus " Dancer Privilege." Riley glanced over towards the three-headed Hob, running a hand the scruff of its fur in a small sign of appreciation. Riley knew the Hob was both guardian and chaperone, but they didn't much mind at the moment. Their eyes scan the crowd taking in those coming and going and eyeing the events as they transpired. Was Wayland a finalist in Archery? Riley smiled a bit at the thought. The Moth glided down a set of stairs, turning their focus again to search the crowd seeking out a particular elemental. Their mind was a buzz, and to help silence it, they began to hum a soft tune to themself. Their heart skipped a beat as they spied Dani coming off of one of their events. A wave of guilt nipped at them, realizing they had missed it, before realizing Dani hadn't even told them it was happening, not even a text. Their hand tightened on the Banister, and they took a breath. The Bright One approaches the Ifrit.

Yuan made his way through the crowd of the lower sections. He was finally off medical duty, which he had been voluntold for, and was of a mind to enjoy some downtime.
He wasn’t wearing anything expensive, just a white t-shirt and some jeans shorts, but he still managed to look immaculate. The white was crisp, the hair well placed. He had that effortless beauty that secretly took hours of preparation. Dandelion seeds waltzed in his wake and the fait scent of lilies clung to him.
Several events were already under way, too far in to admit another contestant, so Yuan had to resign himself to being a spectator.
The Playmate looked around for a familiar face to sit next to. He was familiar with many a Changeling, but there were extremely few that he considered as friends. It was his own little way of setting up boundaries - people can’t abandon you if you don’t get attached.

Archie noted despite the tiers, there was traffic flowing downward as Lost mingled with other friends, with the occasional invite to a more VIP location. For Summers, specifically, he noted that they were largely present, running the entire event in some capacity whether it was hosting or carousing participation. Some of the more low ebb Spears opted to run security Bastille, or a booth. Loud socialites largely moved between circled with some having one of those glowing nymph-like creatures giving them company (much like Samhain).
For more prominent faces, Cinderella seemed to be a sort of Master of Ceremonies, while Sweeney chatted up Hobgoblins and vendors and seemed to be moving armaments for the various contests. Loki seemed to have been pushed into a more prominent roll, forgoing any sort of participation as one of the directors. He seemed a little out of his element, keeping apart and finding respite with a drink when rushing courtiers weren't tapping him. It was oddly quiet of him.
Meanwhile, Yuan sought a specific Spring Courtier, noting those among the sea of faces and Ivory asserting herself on the floor in her usual pleasant manner. A few quiet words and he was directed to a balcony, where he could overhear a heated argument drifting from the open floor above. It sounded like the Bishops were having a disagreement, and there was a loud slam as Carr's voice dropped from the murmuring.

Wits + Politics “How bad would it be to disturb the Bishops right now?” 0 success
Yuan had a healthy dose of minding his own business - you kind of had to, when running in the circles he was involved with. It was probably due to fatigue, but he couldn’t figure out if it would be acceptable to barge in. So, instead, he did the sensible thing, just to be on the safe side.
He sent a text message, telling Mitch that he was free to hang out, if he wanted to hang out.

The Playmate got a barebones text of 'sure' without offering a sign of where the Dancer was, specifically. He was really easy to spot, however, given his mien, height, and Mantle.

The commotion happening above with Mitch and the confrontation involving Riley, Dani, and Lucas is met with a glance by the Pale Dragon. She does not, however, move from her spot, choosing to enjoy the moment with those with whom she has caroused.
If either becomes an issue, she feels certain Summer has people in place who can intervene.

Lucas meandered away from the archery competition where he had his spat with Riley and Dani. He shook his head and let out a sigh. Realizing that others may be watching him, he kept a pleasant smile on his face to give off the image that the argument wasn't enough to ruin his good spirits.
What had upset him the most from the exchange wasn't even that Dani hadn't agreed with him. It was more so the moment Riley showed up, Lucas suddenly became invisible to the Elemental. When Riley accused Lucas of interfering with their business and that he wouldn't understand the honor of a duel because he was a Winter courtier, Dani didn't voice her descent. Not to mention their resolve on what it meant to live a Frog Life buckled the moment the Moth confronted her. He had been hoping to share his plans for the rest of the event but it appeared that he was on his own.
Which was fine by him. He was used to working alone and being unseen. After all, that's one of the things Winter courtiers were known for. He glanced around to make sure the coast was clear before he moved away from the crowd over to the stairwell. He traversed the stairs until he found an corner that was cast a shadow and that anyone who might try to follow after him using mundane means would need to silent creep up a set of stairs to spot him. Once he was satisfied he was by himself, he stepped into the shadow.

Victor got to the precipice of the gathering and paused, having to remind himself that slinking off to what meager shadows there where in this place and eavesdropping was not in fact in the cards for tonight. It was a shame- there were a lot of faces here having conversations that would be far more enlightening to overhear than to join. But the Chimera had business to get to, and it was a business that wasn't going to happen if no one saw his face. In any case, he had spent far too much effort making himself look presentable to waste it all in hiding. Combing his beard alone took almost more time than it was worth, and digging out the fancy jacket from the depths of his closet had felt like an archeological expedition. It was still a hunting jacket, all of them were, but at least this one could pass off as a sport coat if you squinted at it from fifty paces.
At the very least, if he wasn't going to taste the joys of playing fly-on-the-wall this afternoon, Victor would endeavor to make his conversations count. Admittedly it was somewhat of a tall order when he didn't know much about most of the guests here, but he trusted he could land lucky mixing the information he had with educated guesses and a pinch of gut instinct. With that on his mind, the Fairest took a step further into the room and scanned his eyes over, hoping to find a face he was willing to hedge his bets on.
