"Not for lack of trying", he lamented. He wiggled two of his fingers, as if there was a pen in between them. "I think I also expected this to be torture. It's been a wonderful surprise to find out that it actually isn't."
Those same fingers brushed a curl behind his ear. "I think I'd like it...if I talked to you more."

"Then I suppose we can circle back to the first question: what are you wanting to accomplish with therapy?" Wakefield asked patiently. Oren had mentioned getting a handle on his own identity, but that was a nebulous concept she wanted him to whittle down into identifiable problems that would bring him there in the end.
Her list was simple thus far, connecting spheres under the main thread of rejection sensitivity and other things like codependency? ultimately crossed out. From her experience Elementals carried habits that often involved a lack of impulse control, inappropriate anger, and detachment from another's experience. No matter how highly socialized or thoughtful, it was always analytical over true empathy—but they weren't sociopaths or naturally malignant either. It was a flip of a coin—and related to the element itself—as to whether their attachment disorders manifested in being completely isolationist or relentlessly encompassing. Social bonding was often wrought with perceived histrionics or lack of care from their communities, and compassion fatigue with motleymates.
One thing she had never seen was a Torrent getting flustered over the idea of not being enough, and suspected if she dug deep enough she would find Oren was more concerned with the experience of others needing his presence over people actually liking him. Forces of nature simply were, and being denied that knocked them into crisis. It could get dangerous if Oren adapted coping strategies that forced dependency from others he wanted fulfilling relationships with. He was well above the average in being successful in his finances and social capital with the mundane, and being a Mirrorskin would be undeniably talented at deception.
Pairing it with his Seeming, manipulation was always going part of his nature, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
