The Mobster's callout took Riley by surprise. They had not expected that their opinion or thoughts on the matter were wanted, let alone expected at this time. The Darkling had been listening and observing. They couldn't get a read about what Chugunkin felt about the choices or his personal opinion. But they could sense what was socially at stake and what the Knight was trying to get a measure of.
Riley knew that they had started at a disadvantage with the Knight. Their position and his opinion colored by the recent PR nightmare. If they were found wanting during this meeting, it was likely Chungunkin would push them aside, dismiss their worth. It would kill any hope of ambition.
Riley would not be worthless. They knew what that would bring.
" I had not thought my voice was wanted. There was little space for it." It was a slight push, only to establish their own self-respect, but the barb of it was eased by their smile.
"If you want my opinion. I was not impressed or happy with how the situation was handled. We three have had words-"
Words and fists.
"- on how this was handled, and expectations for the future. Publicly I haven't spoken out. I believe that you stand by your friends, don't undermine them. Correct the problem privately. "
The bright one imagined Chungunkin could see some value to that practice. You don't want to disempower your allies when threatened. Riley figured the Knight wouldn't appreciate a vassal questioning his choice in a public forum either.
Riley glances at Linden and Archie for a moment. Giving them a nod. Their voice was steady and professional but held no malice as they spoke about their disappointment in recent events.
"Agrippa is someone Linden and I consider a friend. I hope to salvage that relationship, but I reckon that Archie and Agrippa will not be on such friendly terms given what transpired. As for Ricochet, I am privately trying to set up communications. But, Loki and The Chevaliers? I admit I have been hesitant to approach. "
One step at at time.

He gave up. Leaning back he pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration.
“It is a contrived bumper and in the end it is what others make of it. So it doesn’t matter what I think this is - the public opinion has spoken. Sure, I was probably harsher than normal, seeing as this is the same person who played a large enough part in having Fawkes fucking shoot me.”
He wasn’t going to circle the drain, he was already the villain. He also didn’t reply to Riley’s assumption. They were putting things mildly.

The Wizened's expression was flat as the Bright One complained about the lack of platform.
"Well don't leave me in suspense, Sorsa. This isn't a stage play. You know what, never mind." Rather than watching from the corner of his eye, he fully turned his body to the glowering Summer Ogre still trying to remain stoic. "Linden—you're a group of pledged equals instead of Hartman's accessories. All three of you are newer to the culture, but as a motley you will be seen as a unit responsible for each other. Good or bad. I'm waiting for you to say something instead of being a bruiser. What's 'the expectation'?"
He clasped his hands together as Archie finally came to the conclusion that he might have been motivated by anger. "Now we've cut through the polished turd! Hartman—you're apologizing to Agrippa at the next public event once you have done all the soul searching. He fucked you in finances, but you retaliated like a fairy. Make sure the right people are watching, and make sure you're coming from a place of understanding so the living mood rings and lie detectors don't crush it. Everyone feels a little better that you're checking your instincts."
It didn't sound like it was a suggestion.
"We will get to Loki... Why did Fawkes feel the need to shoot a talent agent? You know what motivates people, Chatelaine. I cannot call up Eurydice with the explanation that her Elementals are fucking crazy. The fact that two officers are involved makes this pretty annoying."

"The expectation is change," Linden responded directly, trying not to rise to the needling. The atmosphere had moved past exhilarating to unsettling, unused to experiencing so many strong Spring mantles at once. "That financial matters can't hold more value than the wellbeing of a member of our community whose crime was being bad at their job." They let out a held breath and added, "We fucked up. But, I stand by punching Loki and I'll weather the fallout."
There was a twisted sense of pride in being culpable for someone else's actions, a kind of emotional intimacy that Linden both coveted and could not stand. Like Chugunkin had said, they were a unit: responsible for each other in almost every way.

This was a painful learning experience. Riley fell silent as the Knight dismissed them and turn his attention elsewhere. The darkling was taking a moment in reading Chungunkin. They didn't know the Knight well, so they took this moment to learn what future interactions might be like.
They glance to Archie at the question regarding Fawkes.

The Knight was right, and as much as it induced a visceral anger the prison of perception sometimes had to become the truth of the matter.
“Because I used the regalia of our season to inspire the Arrayer to be honest about what had happened. Given the nature of how the story was evolving I smelled bullshit. I can in hindsight see the issue with it despite the intention on any level. A gun was pulled, I was warned. I stopped. Rowan, a Fall Courtier, tried to play hero and I suppose it was then that the Sun Banisher saw it appropriate to take one shot - but when he didn’t get an answer he wanted from Rowan, hand or foot, he took both at liberty. The rest of the situation was tense, but without further incident.”
No further incident, just new scars.
“After learning that the person we were looking for was dead, I realized that probably only made things worse as it is probably better I never knew.”
He avoided the topic of another public embarrassment. Focusing instead on the Knights' worry of dealing with two officers, accentuating that the Chatelaine was likely between a rock and a hard place.

"Getting into a fight with Loki is like giving money to a bank. No one is going to look sideways at the way things are."
Chugunkin shrugs, unsure why the Ogre thought he was stuck on Summer rituals, or just looking for attention to the bold deed. The Wizened growled laughter as Archie explained that he was muscling the Arrayer, like this wasn't his first rodeo with ambitious courtiers. "What an asshole! God, that thing is bitter," he laughed again, wiping a forming tear. "Good that he is not so crazy to kill someone. Okay, so that knocks off some of the problem, seeing as Fawkes saw it appropriate to take blood without talking to anyone."
He rolled his eyes. Torrents.
"If Eurydice is still bitching, she might not know. Or thinks bullets doesn't do anything, which I'm sure she will run her mouth about Loki and Mitchell Carr. It's all very dramatic, and I would like it to stop. So I will be asking that motley to stop festering behind the Spear. Sorsa, you had the right idea but with this motley it is best to keep things official. What have you done so far?" One of his fangs catches the edge as his glass as he sighs, looking to After Party.
"And what do you want out of it? What started this all is what does Hartman want."
He doubted from the conversation Linden and Riley were siphoning off another Fairest desperate for validation.

He let the Knights words lay, if Chugunkin said something could be done he had little choice but to believe and possibly hope they were true. He had been the one two
“A legacy worth something.”
A simple utterance, but not a lick of doubt behind it. Rage, Fear, Sorrow were all components, but even in a simple statement the Desire radiated. But what one wanted wasn’t always so easily obtained, if at all.

"Initial steps. An associate of mine. Lucas, of the winter court, is facilitating a meeting between me in Eurydice as means to try and smooth this over."
From the Moth's tone, it was clear they were willing to give it a shot but weren't sold that it was a winning strategy.
Riley glances at Archie as he gave his answer to the Knight. The darkling paused at the idea; what did they want to form all of this? Respect? Security?
"Out of all this? " The Moth mulled their word choice. " I want people to think twice before taking a swing at us. "
Riley didn't want this to happen again. They didn't want others to think they could just step on Riley or those they cared about. But they also knew a Motley war was the last thing they wanted too.

Riley didn't sound like they where holding up Lucas as a point of salvation, rather just informing the Knight they were trying. An appreciative nod if given to Archie,
"People never have spotless records. They just wait long enough for people to forget, then pay the other to shut up. It's what you do with the time you have, and a judgement is made in summary." The fickleness of public opinion wasn't anything unfamiliar, but the fact that the Fairest had been so emotionally devastated at least meant there was something to salvage.
"Da. If you feel this legacy of yours is so threatened, you talk about it first rather than act by yourself. This is why we have these chains of oaths, and bother to try to make courts. Sorsa," his eyebrows raised, sounding genuinely surprised, "How was I supposed to know that you're in such a state that your greatest want is just for people to fuck off? You deserve better for working so hard."
He gave them room to correct, but it wasn't an Emerald's place to judge. "I will facilitate this meeting. Ricochet first. Loki solves itself, usually, unless you have different feelings later. Summer screams in his ear now like an angry wife when he skips on his job."

"Out of this? I don't know. I want to be trusted and respected by my community." Linden scratched their cheek, then added, "I want to have a community. And yeah, you're probably right; Loki didn't seem interested in much beyond the initial confrontation."

Waiting, and payment. Time and money. Everything was easier when it was a transaction.
The Chatelaine nodded as he followed the Knights train of thought, taking mental notes that highlighted his grander shortcomings and failure as a member of the community. He let his eyes shift to Linden and Riley, hearing them out as thoughts rolled through his mind. How he had let them down.
It’s what you do with the time you have

As Linden is speaking and Chugunkin listens, there is a weight. On the topic of oaths and chains, the Wyrd is unforgiving with the human failings of memory and innocent tongues. Riley once made an Oath with one Lucas Chevalier, looking to trade information and power, but gave up his pursuit of the Contract for Riley's promised silence on his involvement with manipulating Eurydice. At least not without his explicit permission first. The motley feels the rush of trust tested. The Knight of Coin blinks, still as resolute as he has been the entire time while his Wizened faculties are tested with unpleasant surprises. "On second thought, Sorsa. I think it is best if it is just Linden and Hartman. I have my limits on the gold I can spread over this shit."
