Lucky Jack cocks an eyebrow at the nervous Fall Courtier, "That's an escalation of intent. Bella, I'm sure Maks doesn't need the white knighting when I'm asking him to check his ego at the door."
As Eis confirms she doesn't have a pledge with the student or notes anything unusual about his behaviour, the Wizened nods. He chuckles at Maks' comment, "Then why are you in Winter, my friend? It's the Silent Arrow not the Howitzer."
He slides out of his chair, "If you don't have any specifics, I'll come back in a few with the information my officer got. If you need to make some calls now's probably the time."

The pits where eyes should be narrowed slightly. His posture now straighter, mouth set into a deeper frown. The low rumble of his voice betrayed nothing, his body speaking the language of simmering anger. “Do not judge what you do not understand, rebenok. I have my reasons, that of which you do not need to know. Do not press your namesake.”The air about him heavy with menace, ill intent and anger beneath the surface. The Soviet Bear from a bygone era still existed within the Ogre. Rebenok — Child

The Wizened's eyes glaze for a moment as he sits back, the flash of metal ghosting an aimed muzzle from beyond, his hands reflexively going up as his senses scream of the danger the Ogre radiates.
A shudder moves through him, the sense of Loss as he reflects on everything that had been stripped from his life since his return; the pressure of the battlefield as a pawn moves in a manner it isn't supposed to.
The Wizened Curse grips his mind as he jerks his head; no, Maks was a person, not a tool for the grander theatre. Jack decided that he in fact, isn't going to deal with this horseshit.
Tick.
The room freezes in a sharp, jarring tableaux, the colour draining from the time that never was.
Tock.
Gears whirr and grind, shredding the image like torn leather and cement as the wrath of the Iron Spear flaring from his psyche. Eis was calmly reviewing the letting, the movement already placed in the new reality with the precision only blessed to the Domovoi as he leans forward and plucks stray beard hair from the man's shirt, like a fussing family member or partner trying to clean him up.
"... the best I can do is hope the line of questioning covers some of my own questions," Eis finishes. As it's processed what Jack was doing, there was a moment of confusion.

Maks adjusted in his seat, the small chair uncomfortable for his frame. “Ideas are same. Should we...speak to the hobs first?” Children were always a soft spot for the man, despite his demeanor scaring most away. Though he had managed to calm a few during his EMT duties, sometimes at his expense.
Children should not feel loss.

Maks suddenly vanished with a flicker, though Jack's lack of reaction and the Freehold Oath maintaining didn't signal any danger had taken place.
"Mister Tolstoy will be picked up by his superior officers this evening. This entire floor will be empty and the Watch will mostly be out on their lunch breaks; overall super quiet. He won't lose any time, and I'll make sure to leave a note while the Winter Court contacts his phone to let him know his next steps," he didn't seem too worried, transitioning back to Business As Usual.
The Wizened sighed, collecting himself, "It probably seems a little sudden, but I have abilities that gives me a different perspective on time. In a reality that never happened it became readily apparent that Mister Tolstoy wouldn't find working on this venture disagreeable to his abilities and standards."
He slides out of his chair, "If you don't have any specifics, I'll come back in a few with the information my officer got. If you need to make some calls now's probably the time."

Eis jerks, startled at the sudden absence of a very obvious presence. She isn't sure what to make of it. When Jack speaks again, she eyes him curiously. A brow arches as he explains where the Winter Courtier had gone. Deciding to take his word for it that all would be well, she nods.
"Thank you. I suppose there's no shame in admitting my concern for the boy, and anything else he may have revealed can only help us along." Or so she hopes. The investigation could easily result in even more questions, while answering none.
She then looks to Bella, wondering what the younger woman would make of all this. Jack's use of his talents and Maks' subsequent disappearance, of course, but also what she makes of the situation they find themselves in. "Thoughts?" She asks, bringing her own thoughts to words. "What I understand from the letter is cursory, at best."
While she waits for her answer, she pulls out her phone. Jack's suggestion hits home with the Autumn Fairest, and before she realizes it, she's pouring through her contacts for the right person to call.

She'd mulled over who, precisely, to reach out to for a moment before making her decision. Satisfied with her choice, she stands and turns to Bella.
"Pardon me a moment. I have an... associate to call."
She pulls out her phone and moves to the far corner of the office. Not so much as to prevent Bella from overhearing as to simply feel more alone with her thoughts. She dials up another Winter Courtier who may have some insight.

Bella silently taps her chin in thought for a few minutes before saying.
"The only Unicorn that my brain keeps focusing on is Agrippa but I could be just grasping at straws to be honest." Bella then goes back to thinking to herself, wracking her brain about the letters contents.

Fortunately for Eis, rather than being out and about gathering information out on the field, Lucas is at home pouring over his various investigation notes.
He glances at the call ID when his phone starts buzzing. After seeing who it is, Lucas answers.
"Hey, Eis. How's it going?"

“Lucas. I’m afraid the reason for my call isn’t all that pleasant. A student of mine has run into contact with a girl who has seen entirely too much. This is only a working theory of mine, but she may have been conscripted by one of Them to seek out a ‘unicorn’. I suspect the one in question may be one of us...” she lets the implications sink in before continuing, ever watchful of the door should the wrong person walk back into the office.
”I’m concerned for a number of reasons, as you can imagine. Not the least of which being the safety of our ‘community’. As silly a question as this may be...” and silly it is... “Do you happen to know a ‘unicorn’?”

Lucas paused for a moment, staring at his phone in disbelief.
"Oh damn, is your student okay? Do we know anything else about the girl?"
He leaned back into his chair, searching his mind for any information he had on a Lost who is connected with a unicorn in some way. Eis can hear Lucas hum the word unicorn a couple of times as he works through his mental catalogue of knowledge.

"It sounds like we're working with the European iteration of a unicorn. The two names that come to the top of my head that are associated with European style unicorns are Agrippa of Spring court and Jules Carroll of your court. The two of them have very similar unicorn forms. "

Eis' eyes search the room aimlessly as she considers. It would seem they have a choice to make. Her gaze hones in on Bella, long enough to catch the younger woman's eyes. She knows Bella can hear her. When she responds, she makes sure she knows Bella is listening.
"I see... Well, Lucas, I'm going to be straightforward with you; I'm torn as to what to do. Indulge me, won't you? My instincts tell me to warn both Agrippa and Jules of the potential danger. Perhaps we might even learn more about our potential adversary. If, indeed, one of them is being sought out by their Keeper. But I'm not entirely sure that's wise. And your people value secrecy, do they not?" It isn't really a question. Or at least not one she requires an answer to. "Fear has its place, but causing undue panic over a simple theory could do more harm than good. What would you suggest?"
She may not even take Lucas' advice. But she will be sure to let her fellow Autumn knows what's going on. Even though, in Eis' eyes, Bella is younger and softer than herself, her opinion on the matter could have merit.
