“I don’t know if we’ll have time for lunch but I will be checking out the bakery. Any suggestions?”
Smile and small talk, and while they were looking to limit their time to get into trouble the olive branch of baked goods always worked out.
“We are surveyors, trying to get some general information about the neighborhood. But I have learned you can’t find everything in books so sometimes you need to see actual people. Its a nice break from computer screens and phone calls though - something I think younger generations are losing touch with.”
Those dastardly youth.
“We were looking for anyone who may have stakes in the specific block we were making rounds in. This just seemed like the next best stop.”
He made their intentions known. Now as for Ruby?
“Oh, she is a dance instructor - needed to head back off to get to her class so she couldn’t join us sadly.”

"That sounds like a great idea."
This was one of those things where Penrose took a thread and ran with it. He'd pull bars and drinks and numbers scrawled on napkins. He'd knock back a shot for good luck.

"Thanks for the Advice," Rick said with a smile. He made a mental note that Mitch should probably avoid the neighborhood going forward and keep his work less on the ground.
Glancing to the door and Mitch was outside. Rick nodded to the older biker.
"I am going to make sure the idiot gets out of here before e insults someone else."
Rick glances over to Ruby, seeing they were jumping into chit-chat and see if they could loosen lips. Rick took a moment to wander over to the door to watch to make sure Mitch got back to the Tesla across the street. He would need to have a chat with him later, about what exactly he did to piss off summer.

As Penrose keeps the atmosphere lively, Rick watches the Dancer lean himself against the vehicle, force himself to purge what he drank, and then mess with his phone. He was likely dealing with securing a lift: the bikers had soft-leveraged him into shot-gunning the equivalent of eleven shots in one go, so driving wasn't really on the table. The lack of danger sense on their motley pledge told Rick that he wasn't in any immediate danger, and maybe he had a Spring trick or two to deal with alcohol toxicity.
"The merengón."
She sipped on her coffee, nonplussed by Archie's narrative, "I am sure you've learned a lot. What are you wanting with us?"

“We want to know as much as we can about the area we were in. There has been a lot of interest in the land and we want to know why this particular neighborhood seems to not be selling while the market is willing to pay a fair price. The city is doing as the city does, and the old is making way for the new. There is value in speaking to the community at large and asking the why, so I don’t miss what is right in front me.”
He pressed gently that they just wanted to know who ran the block, and that there was a belief that it wasn’t on the level. All without being rude about it.

"So you're here to know why we won't make way for the nice stadium?" she chuckled. She ground her thumb and forefinger together,
"You aren't the first. Who are you working for?"

Stadium? News to him.
“Us? Rudolph Chugunkin. But I think he has his own partners I am not privy to. May I ask what sort of hold ups do you have with the project? Also who else has been around, hopefully no trouble makers.”

The mood of the bar shifts as the name drops, a few of the men hovering around Archie in a protective manner of the old woman. The magic of the Royal Court keeps fate civil, but it is only by this blessing of the Wyrd that hands fold rather than posture.
"And your name, sir?" she sighed, looking from Archie to Penrose and Rick with patient, tired eyes.

Rick watched the purge out by the car, and took a moment to catch a breath. He had not realized just how much tension was in his shoulders till this moment. Once satisfied Rick moved back in to join the conversation. There was no need to jump in so Rick waited on the side lines with a roughish smile. He takes the time to try and get a bead on the old woman, she was tired and it seems this was a conversation she had before. But the old woman was hard to read and being distance back he wasn't getting exactly front row seats.

“Archie.”
He gave a nice simple answer, but was waiting for the answer to his previous question, body posture engaging but not demanding. Everything was still as cool as a cucumber.

Confused at first, as if wondering if the man was bluffing, and then realizing it was just simple ignorance.
"We don't have any hold-ups, Archie. We don't plan on dropping our familial businesses and abandoning our churches because they want to build a nice tourist destination."
The woman was polite. Not apprehensive, but she was looking to reassure the stranger that he was in over his head and should probably leave them alone.

Rick shot his eyes over to the mark. Penrose covered his bases and kept a bead on his Pledge-mate, hoping to pick up the other end of the conversation to see how the scales swayed. There was only so much concern he could sling while he was having such a nice time.

He nodded, it was better to know beyond a shadow of a doubt then leave things to assumptions. They were definitely dealing with people who were entrenched in the community here and he wasn’t going to preach and explain to them why they should up and leave, and try to figure things out through a mini diaspora.
“I completely understand, you never want to assume these things. Community, and family even more so, are nearly impossible to give up. Thank you for your time. . .I don’t believe I caught your name?”
The last piece of information he was hoping to dig out of this establishment.
“I hope the rest of your day is nice and quiet, now if you’ll pardon me, I have to indulge my sweet tooth.”
He said he was going to the bakery and he was going to take up that suggestion. He tossed a quick glance to Penrose and Rick, catching eyes, before giving a slight nod towards the door. and gracefully making his exit if he was given the chance.

Rick, who was idly chatting with one of the bikers, glanced over as Archie made his goodbyes to leave. He gives the man a nod and a smile before stating.
"Well seems our time here is done"
He turns to the older man who had provided advice to avoid Mitch in this area and gave a polite nod. "Adios" the man had been willing to avoid violence and for that Rick was grateful.
Placing a tip in the jar, he moved to the front door to leave with Archie and Penrose.
"We should do a check in with the others" And I need to talk to Mitch
