They were still here...They talked about the time after...They insinuated hope. The future was theirs was it not? Informed by the past but not bound to it. What was, was simply that…was. This was the now, and now he had the likes of Riley and Linden.
Knuckles whitened as they gripped the rail once more, finally loosening. His eyes finally rose as he glanced between the two of them.
“I can’t…”
A deep sigh.
“Ever thank the two of you enough...I don’t know how it came to be but I couldn’t ask for better friends.”
Not clients, or partners, or mere allies. Something more personal.
A soft smile crossed his face. With the future staring him in the face he couldn’t let the past chain him down. Perhaps that is why he had been so aloof about Lost culture, never fully sinking in. Always afraid he was an enemy and outsider. However, here he was with two of the strongest people he knew propping him up. It would be rude to waste their words, to ignore their feelings...Even worse to ignore his own.
Even as Linden suggested who was going to keep them on the straight and narrow, the truth was it wasn’t only for them, it was for him as well. Indulging in life.
“Shall we, then?”
This is it.

Wine was not the drink for this. Archie insisted on something a bit stronger, disappearing into the house leaving the Ogre and moth by the poolside. The dawning realization of what was about to occur swept over them. Moments later Archie emerged, three small glasses in hand. Within them was a milky white liquor, the strong smell of anise and licorice could be smelt. Arak, a drink Archie kept for family. They stood there in silence for a moment, uncertain where to begin. It was met with a brief stint of smiles and the occasional laugh. But for the three it was a moment of reflection of what was coming. Then with raised glass they spoke the oath. “Through feast and famine we build our way forward together: our strengths shared, our burdens and desires held by many hands. I know you will celebrate with me, grieve with me, and open your door to me no matter the storm. For a year and a day I swear to stand by you, as you stand by me, and I am prepared for the consequence should I prove myself a liar.”
Three from different paths, chose to walk together, to an unknown future. All they knew was it would be side by side. United not only by friendship but ideals of, stability, community, growth and protection. For each of them in turn and for those who would seek it. With the words spoken and the wyrd sealed and weaving the oath into their being. The three companions toasted their glasses and shot back the drink in celebration. It was now time for The Afterparty.
