The Sand dollar lounge was a small but nice Dive. Classically lit, with a handful of pool tables and a central bar island, and a stage for live shows. It wasn't hopping like some of the bigger fancier bars in the area, which worked well for the locals. Riley was as per normal, late. It had taken longer to get ready than they expected, and traffic was a bit busier than normal. For how often this happened one would think the Moth would of learned or would plan for it. But that never seemed to click, time was just a challenge. Shit Shit shit. Riley wasn't sure if Rowan would be miffed to be left in a possibly busy bar. Hard to tell with that guy. This evening the moth was wearing a pair of classic cowboy boots, black slacks, a white button up blouse, and a fringed jacket. Their hair was sweapt back and slightly greased. The Bright One emerged through the front door, with a clack of their boots on the wood floors. Scanning the bar trying to spy where their drinking partner for the evening was located.

He was at the bar, people watching. An untouched pint of beer was in front of him as he gazed intently at the a group playing pool. He looked out of place however, in his Superman top and jeans to flip the bird to cool evening. There were several empty seats next to him, despite the place being quite busy - an effect of his Mantle no doubt. He didn't mind it, it gave him room to breathe.
He just happened to look up when Riley click-clacked their way into the joint and waved at them to get their attention. If he was bothered by their lateness, it didn't show.

"Sorry I am late" The moth said sliding into the seat next to Rowan. Waving the bartender over.
"Corona with a lime, thanks" They gave a wink to the tender before turning their attention to Rowan.
"I hope you haven't been waiting long, and thanks for meeting up tonight. I was going batty" Riley shed their Jacket onto the back of their stool.

"'s alright. Do I have to dress like that to look like an adult?" He pointed with his chin in the direction of the group he had been observing - trucker caps, dirty jeans, plaid shirts, the whole nine yards. "'Cuz I don't think I like that very much."
"I like your boots," he added, as he blatantly looked at them.

Riley shot a look over to the group by the pool table with a raised eyebrow. They whipped their head back to Rowan with a smirk.
"Naw ya good on that one. They ain't your type of crowd I reckon. " Rowan wouldn't sit well with the country or trucker types. It however made Riley ponder something.
Hearing the compliment of their boots, the Bright one smile shown. Placing a single hand daintily under their chin.
"Thanks!" They proclaimed as they bent one knee to rest the foot upon the stool as the other one dangled off the side. The bar tendered arrived passing Riley their drink. Which they claimed with what could have been thanks, or could have been some kind of happy chirp.
" What's your poison of the night?" Not waiting for the answer they dropped a second question.
"What was your crowd before...Vegas?" Ya know... back at school.

"I don't know. I ordered the special." He pointed at the buck of beer.
"Just a couple of friends, no real crowd to speak off. Jimmy, Clara, Paco and Angie." He paused. He hadn't thought about them lately. "We used to get into so much trouble." He had been swept up in Hold life and everything. Besides, what would he tell them, now?
He picked up his beer and held it up to Riley. "Cheers."
He was going through the motions, waiting for the inevitable 'so, I need to ask you a favour.'

Riley raised their glass tapping it against the fellow darklings special of the night..
"Cheers" Riley made an intense intentional eye contact during the clinking of their glasses, only breaking eye sight once it was time to actually take a sip. Traditions.
"My first lesson. Always make eye contact during a cheers. Not doing so means your doomed to bad sex."
Those left behind. It was a tough topic for their kind. The lives shattered, the people who were nothing but memories. Some would say the dancer had been lucky in that regard, Claire finding them. Riley wouldn't call it luck. They appreciated it but not lucky.
"Sounds like they were a good bunch" Riley's tone had shifted, less perky. But the smile had remained of course.
"It seems getting' trouble ain't changed much for ya has it?"

Rowan took a sip, pulled a face and placed the buck right back. "Nope." 'That's a very weird Ritual,' he thought about the eye thing.
He chuckled. "It used to be Angie. Her dad had bailed on the family after coming out, so she felt like she had something to prove."
That was him now - juiciest shoulder chip of all times. "I get not wanting to stay somewhere. It was the same for me, after Ivory. Made a whole Hollow because of it." He ordered a lass of water, his face straight like he hadn't said anything weird.

"Alright, not the one" Riley chuckled at the beer that missed the mark. "I'll grab your next one. Maybe we'll find something for ya"
They hugged their knee and rested they're against the back of the stool. Riley nodded taking a sip of their own beer.
"Angie sounds like someone I would get along with at that age."
Ivory? Riley knew they had bonded in some way. But It hadn't been a major topic of conversation with the Pale Dragon.
"Has the new place been treating you well? Were' ya fixin' of leaving before that?"

"Tanner had hooked me up with an apartment, out in Whitney. A two room thing, nothing luxurious. I remember standing there, looking at the broken door and not wanting to go in."
He shook his head. Nope, don't talk about that.
"Yeah, Angie was something. Always rearing for an adventure. That's what she called her bad ideas. She always had a way of roping us in - not that we protested much, really."
He spun the buck around, playing with the circle of condensation at the bottom. "This is my second time at a bar. I had a Corona last time, because Tanner ordered one and I didn't know what to take."
"Do you have any recommendations?"

Adventures? A cute name for trouble, Riley liked that. Might need to borrow that.
"I assume the Corona didn't hit the mark? Hmm," Riley paused and thought.
"Ah'ite. Are you finding the flavors are too strong? Or not to taste?"
There was a ton of options but Riley had an idea and waved over the Bartender.
"Hey, Sweetie! Could ya set us up with a tray of tasters on what ya got on tap?" They smiled as the bartender lefter.
"This ought to make it a bit easier" Filling the time before the tray arrived, the Moth asked. "So what ya do for fun? "

"It was okay. I wanted to try something new."
He marvelled at the way the other Darkling dealt with social situations, how easy they made it feel. Did he envy them? A little. It came so easy to them, when he had to think three times about a sentence to make sure it wouldn't be misconstrued.
"Crunchyroll, when I get the time for it. Seems like there's always something happening lately." Crisis after crisis, really. "I also go into the Hedge to leave little things, see hoe it affects them. Nothing successful yet. I've also started studying for my GED."
Pause. Right, you're supposed to reciprocate. "How about you?"

"Crunchyroll huh?"
Riley had only recently learned about the anime service after Fire had announced her interest in the medium. That tracked given his and fire's relationship. Don't think about that.
"Anime fan like Dani huh?" They pause as he mentions going into the hedge for fun and doing tests. Now that was very autumn. Riley didn't get the appeal ,the hedge had its benefits they would admit that but, for fun? Takes all sorts.
"GED? Cool. Congrats on that. Hope it's going-" They stopped as the tasting tray arrived. Flashing a smile to the bartender Riley gestured to the taster glasses.
"Right, I Reckon yer going to find something here"
The tray was arranged from light to dark in a spectrum, each half-pint had a small label at its bottom with a flavor pallet.
"Fun for me?" Riley paused closing one eye in a thoughtful squint.
"This mostly Tbh. Hanging out with people, drinks, music. Going out dancing. When people become too much, I stay home, work on my routines."
The moth shrugged in thought and picked up their Corona before nodding to the tray. "No pressure to like any of them. So GED? Sounds like a good step. What do you want now that you're back? "

This was getting tedious. He had been willing to entertain it this far, but his patience was quickly running out. He kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Rowan grabbed the first half-pint, the palest one on the left and took a sip. It tasted... well much like the Corona, really. Acrid, cold. It was fine. He turned to look at the Moth.
Nothing. He got nothing. He sighed - he was going to have to be blunt.
"You didn't invite me here to talk about my GED. People don't do that, not with me. What do you need?"
Did he feel bad for cutting the pleasantries short? Yes, a little. But he simply couldn't imagine why someone like Riley would want to spend time with him. He put the half-pint down.
"Also, I don't like this one."

The Darkling almost flinched as the other shoe dropped. In all honesty, it almost felt like a record, that Rowan lasted this long. They understood the fellow darklings impulse, to assume the worst in others. Nonetheless, it stung to hear the accusatory question. Riley took a moment to gather themself, snapping back wasn't helpful.
" I see I hit a sore spot," The moth teased, referring to him dodging the question regarding his wants.
"Look Rosebud, I ain't here to start nothin'. But maybe people don't do that cause you won't let 'em, " Riley took a drink of their corona rotating in their hand absently.
Riley had a seen a glimpse of who Rowan could be. At the second-hand clothes shop. That had been a shit show all things, but it had some moments.
"After Archies V-day. I thought, maybe we could try again. I wanted to know more about you."
I don't need to be here dude. The bright one quickly quelled the intrusive petty thought.
"If you don't like that. The next one is pretty similar." They say offhand at the tray before looking back at Rowan.
