A normal scene at this point, a nice slate and white office, the friendly face of Clint behind the desk - bless his heart - and a fork in the road. One leading to the promise land that was the office of Archie Hartman, a predominantly white in color, a nice next right through the door with some comfy ass chairs to match. To the right were some windows with a good view, and the left had a wall with a tv mounted above a couch. The walls were filled with shelves that had various books, knick knacks, accolades, and the more bare walls still decorated with the occasional article or tribute piece to a big show - likely clients of the Arch Man Clint would be great to deal with, taking the most minimal amount of details before letting the incoming Lost that they could head straight into the office. Archie was furiously pounding away at the MacBook on on his desk once Agrippa would have the chance to enter, his host worked quickly to finish up. ”Juuuust have to send this email off - Quickly off hand opinion of the Blue Man Group and have you seen?An odd question, but yet oddly valid. It also gave Agrippa something to answer so it wasn’t just awkward dead air between them as the email was finished and the laptop closed, pulled away, and slotted beneath his desk. and the Fairest turned his undivided attention to his fellow Emerald. Agrippa looked about the office, taking it in as though it were an alien landscape. It was apparent they had toned things down from their usual attire- light grey blazer with dress pants to match. Their shirt still offered a pop of salmon though, and looking closely at the tie revealed the dogtooth pattern to actually be made of tiny little bats. Under an arm they carried a slightly oversized white laptop bag that had surely seen better days. It wasn't hard to guess that it had been years since the last time the author had to meet with someone professionally in an office.
"Not in-person. Seen clips of them, though! It's an interesting performance gimmick- I'm sure its even more fantastic live on stage."
The unicorn was smiling, though it was little more than a cordial expression at the moment. They navigated their way to whatever looked to be the most appropriate seat if any presented themselves.

“Well, it's an amazing show - so, get a friend and make a night of it.”
He opened the drawer of his desk and pulled out a longish box and presented it to the Unicorn.
“Tickets for the Blue Man Group at the Luxor with a free meal at the steakhouse TENDER - pretty good, comes with a two drink limit but still that's two drinks. They were a gift for a client but they couldn’t make it so they said make sure they found a good home, and I can think of no home better than letting you get a real classic taste of Vegas entertainment.”
He raised his hands up and shrugged, if they were going to go to waste why not let someone enjoy them. In the meantime there were two very comfy seats in front of the fellow Emerald that he could enjoy at his leisure, Archie making sure it offered it right as soon as he finished his spiel if Agrippa hadn’t already sat.
“Now - Horror writer did not strike me as the first genre I would assume, that was Science-Fiction for some reason - but nonetheless color me curious about your work! Before we talk anything hit me with a title or titles - because I want to be hooked”

Agrippa was sure Archie was either trying to butter them up or show off- either way, it was working a charm. Their brows hit the ceiling as they reached over to accept the gift.
"Ambushing me with gifts, are you? Well, I'm hardly one to say no. I'll put it to good use, I can promise you that!"
A hand felt for the seat behind them so they could sit down without having to take their eyes and attentions off of the Fairest. A sort of thrilling excitement took hold of their posture and expression as soon as he asked for a title.
"Cut Lillies and The Moss. The former about a haunting, the latter about a cryptid."
They leaned slightly forward, speaking in a lowered conspiratorial tone and gesticulating like one might when telling a ghost story to kids. Their eyes glimmered, and they paused just long enough for a dramatic effect to take hold before breaking into a giddy grin.
"You wouldn't be the first with that assumption. I think its the pastels. People expect a horror writer to look either goth or drab."
Considering the effect of the unicorn's mantle, there was certainly a double-meaning to be read into that. Whether it was intentional on Agrippa's part however was difficult to tell. They further settled themselves into their seat, pulling the laptop bag over their lap and unzipping a front pocket so they could slip the giftbox inside.
"Brought what I have of both of those novels as well as a few other things, if you would like to take a look!"

Archie leaned in as well, how couldn’t he! Already he could see the person across from him had a captivating presence, and could capture the imagination.
“You are going to give me the shivers, you know that. And for the record true crime would have been my first guess, horror maybe third. Not enough tweed to scream Stephen King. And of course I would love to see.”
His own voice was soft, and whispered like to this point before he pulled back from their lean, and he righted himself at his desk, with a grin slapped across his face as he drummed the edge of his desk.
“Now, with this kind of energy - tell me, have you ever done a reading? More common than you might think but not common enough for me to blame people for not knowing about them. They are less obnoxious then poetry slams, and you tend to the headliner, head to a store, read an excerpt or something to really get them - emphasize that chilling moment that keeps them on a hook. You already have the air of a story teller so I mean, this is practically cheating.”
He shrugged a touch "Any of that sound like something you would interested in? If we can get it off the ground that it?"

The request to see what Agrippa had brought kept their smile bright. Their hands moved to the laptop bag's main compartment, which they unzipped as slowly and quietly as they could manage while Archie went on to proposition them with the concept of a live reading event.
"I haven't! I didn't even know they existed. If it could be set up I would certainly be interested. I've told a ghost story or two in my time, and I think I'm at least half-way decent. And I'm not one to get cold feet around public speaking."
Tone and expression projected a confidence in their abilities that far exceeded the trepidation of their words.
"If it would be better, I can even write a short story or two for-purpose! It could be sold as a sort of campfire ghost story experience, but from a professional author! I'm sure that pitch could get some butts in seats."
Again with that glimmer in their eyes- they were already falling in love with the idea. Their hands reached into the bag, now open, and pulled out a small green binder. It was one of those cheap cardboard things with the frosted plastic cover and metal rings. There was about a quarter-inch stack of paper installed within.
"Here. I have a sample of Cut Lilies in here, and the first chapter of The Moss!"
They plopped the thing on the table, sliding it over to the talent agent with eagerness born of pride.

Archie held a finger up, to signal for Agrippa to pause for a moment once the samples had been placed. He opened the center drawer of his desk and would retrieve a kerchief and dab his brow.
“Alright, so you are already marketing this better than I could so oh me, oh my I think we may be onto something. I can hardly wait to dig into these but I am not going to be an awful host and do it in front you - but safe to say if they are worth their salt, which I have little doubt about it we would start work on getting you some bookings right away. Local venues, podcasts, it would all be a great stepping stone. Especially the short stories, shill those while we are out and about and get a publisher to bite. I don’t see it being long before you are on the shelves somewhere.”
Agrippa really didn’t make things hard. It was all good energy and eagerness. This was the stuff dreams were made of and they were easy to harness into success. Excitement made the job one hundred times easier.
“I have these to read tonight, and you say the word and I can have a contract sent to you this evening to go over at your leisure, give you some time to see if you like it. It's pretty standard stuff, more than fair, but I always encourage you to take it word by word, and hit me up if you have questions. I am transparent with these things, and always make sure that members of our community and especially the same team as myself are taken care of. We all need to look out for one another, don’t we?”
Setting expectations was necessary. Legal paperwork, money exchanging hands, this was the agent’s job at the end of the day and he would use all his skills to make it happen.
“And don’t worry, you aren’t the first member of the community here. I have had a couple one foot in, one foot in types - but as of late I’ve worked with Firebringer as she is known from the Red team, and Riley from our own. Both have great projects coming down the line - one of which should be publicly announced soon, so a big deal.”

Agrippa leaned back in their seat as Archie accepted the binder, basking in the shower of compliments and musings on expanding success. They weren't used to being spoken to like this, and they were lapping it up like the words were an oasis in the desert.
"For the short stories, all I need is an approximate length of time my narration needs to last, and a week's notice minimum. I haven't timed myself, though I'd imagine that half an hour give or take would be where most short stories I would write would end up, if I wasn't trying for a specific bench-mark."
The mention of a contract got a understanding nod from the beast.
"I see no reason to not give you the word now! Let us both have something to read over, and hope that my writings scare you more than yours scare me!"
They laughed, clearly (and perhaps naively) expecting their joke to be merely that and nothing more.
"I'll admit, I haven't dealt with this sort of thing before, but I'll try not to pester you too much with stupid questions. You're the professional here, I trust you know what you are doing."
Perhaps it was the name dropping, perhaps it was the willingness to name clients that he knew Agrippa could easily speak to themselves, or perhaps it was just blind trust in a nice office with a nameplate- either way, the vote of confidence was given without a hint of irony.

Archie gave the finger funs and swept out of his desk, collecting a copy of his contract. Soon Agrippa had
“Well then, I don’t have anything else in my books - so the only question that I have is do you want the chair or the couch - either way works for me and we can see who spooks first. I do warn you, the legalese is truly frightening at some point. If you need coffee or a snack, give me the heads up and I can give Clint a ring. And don't worry about stupid questions - if you don't ask them how will you ever find out?”

"I think... I think I'll take the couch, if you don't mind."
They hadn't been expecting to be reading the contract right then in the office, but they weren't going to refuse the offer- it wasn't like they had anything better to do today. Having Archie right there to answer questions would likely be better than texting anyways. Plus it meant that they got to be in the room while someone read their own work, which was a rare treat. True to their stated intent, Agrippa took the contract to the couch, settled down, and dug in. They were about the furthest thing from a student of law and they hadn't the faintest clue about the legalese of contracts, but they were a writer and these were just words at the end of the day... they could spot something fishy if there was anything to be worried about, couldn't they?
As for Agrippa's own offering, the inside of the binder was filled with page after page of prose printed in 12pt New Times Roman. The text wasn't so tightly packed together that it was difficult on the eyes, but it was clear from the outset that the author was no layout artist. The content of the text, however, made up for any initial amateurish appearance. Cut Lillies was deeply atmospheric- nothing actually frightening happened in the snippet of the story that was on display, but the anticipation was built up like a quiet string quartet in a horror movie. A nearly pastoral scene of a young woman walking across a snow-laden path near her rural house was turned unnerving somehow. The second sample was less polished than the first- likely an editor hadn't gotten a chance to look at it yet. This one was describing a boy cataloging the plant-life in an old forest, only to come across a perverse display of animal carcasses, laid out in a manner nearly ritual. Like the first, it was more unnerving than outright scary, but masterfully so. It was getting fairly obvious that the beast was either terrified or enamored by wild land and forests.

“This...This is really good. You are telling me you haven’t been snatched up? Agrippa, this is really good, I can hear the background music. Like geeze.”
He was still leaning back and had to set the sample down, and was still thinking about how the rest of it all went. These or similar samples would be completely sellable, and definitely something Archie could work with - help get the Unicorn out there, and heard, helping him find greater success than he had on his own.
“When you are ready to sign, I can start pushing this out ASAP, and probably have something for you within a week.”
Archie wasn’t in his usual wheelhouse with literature but it wasn’t his first foray, so he had some contacts he could broach - his major push would be the readings, and getting him in the right places for exposure while netting the Unicorn some tidy cheques just for showing up. With a few samples here and there, it wouldn’t be hard to sell the work. Agrippa had done the hard work - Archie just needed to put it in the right hands.

Archie's newest installment in the long string of compliments that had comprised of this meeting so far took Agrippa's face from slack to beaming in an instant. Up to the point he had spoken, the beast had been lounging in silence staring intently at the alphabet soup on the pages in their hands. They had gone over it at least three times, and they were still sure that they had missed something, but lord only knew what it was.
"Thank you. I don't know, maybe I just ask the wrong people. Glad you see something in it they obviously didn't."
With some effort, they pushed themselves out of the couch's comfortable clutches and ambled over to Archie's desk, laying the contract on the surface between them.
"I only have one question-"
They slapped one hand softly on the desk, leaning on it as they pointed to the dotted line on the contract with the other.
"Do you have a pen?"

“Well, that is why I am here! We will fix this, and together we will get these words into the hands that don’t even know they need it yet!”
With the hand on the desk, that was the signal. Archie knew he was going to have to make this happen otherwise it would all be for not. The Unicorn was placing his trust in the fairest, and would be a grievous wound to let him down. That wasn’t an option as far as Archie was concerned. “Of course I do, I also suspect that you saw the part about a work phone right? Going to shoot my shot and guess Rose Gold?”
He smiled as he offered Agrippa the pen he had on a particular stand on his desk.

"And here I show up in this perfectly boring grey suit in hopes that I'll trick you into thinking that I have perfectly boring tastes, and you still pick out that I'd want the one in shiny, flashy pink?!"
The unicorn nearly giggled and shook their head
"I suppose there's no escaping it, is there? And with good reason, because you aren't wrong!"
With that, they leaned forward just a little further to pluck the offered pen from its stand. They uncapped the ornate thing, and with one smooth flourish, signed their name in script astonishingly neat for how quickly it had been marked.

Business was complete! “Well, that takes care of the hard stuff now doesn’t it? Suppose this is where we pour a drink - maybe not champagne yet, but something to help level out the excitement don’t you think? I have some rum kicking around - not the high shelf stuff, kind of sweet, but a personal favorite.”
A half rotation of his chair and he was able to bring to glasses onto his desk and set them down with a clink. “That is only if you have the time, I wouldn’t want to keep you.”
It wasn’t so often he had a member of the Lost community in his office, so he thought it would be worth the offer to sit down, get to know one another. Again it was a standing offer that the Unicorn was free to reject. Regardless, he opened the bar bridge, and dropped some ice into each glass before bringing over a bottle of rum from the side table that had an assortment of bottles on it.
