"Doctor said she should be fine," he answered meekly. He put his coffee down next to he glass, waiting for it to cool down. The Darkling didn't want to thing about her anymore, so he focused on the task instead.
He listened as Loki summed up the information Rowan had provided, then started filling in holes.
"Another Fall asked me to help him. He was looking into Babylon Investors because he didn't trust them. They were sinking a lot of money into a shop he cared about. He's the one who gave the intel on the woman and the Halcone, which matched what I had found myself. I tend to trust the info of most other Darklings. Ivory told me about another lady who was using that drug, and described her as 'Hollowed out'. She also had concerns for her assets, saying some firm from Beijing, with ties to the Wah Ching, was laundering money through them. It seemed to correlate.
Still, I had no idea what the drug is, and Ivory was asking all these questions I couldn't answer. So I told her I would need to see the effects firsthand to even begin to understand it - it was supernatural, so I planned to use the Kenning. She took too much. The whole vial in fact." The stumbled on his words a little, still shaken.
"I'm here because I want in, Loki. Because whoever is making it is dragging normies into our business. Adding them to Glamour is just wrong. It's what has been done to us."
"Bust mostly, I want in because that stuff hurt Ivory. And I want payback." He sounded so stupid. He was tired, he looked and felt like shit. He felt intangible, barely there. Who would ever believe this wisp of a man that he was serious. He was angry, yes, but he was mostly terrified that the same thing will happen to someone else. Loki probably saw him as just another awkward Autumn guy.
"You know what, nevermind. Thanks for the coffee," he said as he pushed himself off the wall.

"Chingada madre," the Elemental rumbled, "The whole fucking thing?" He rubbed his face, shivering at the image of the smaller woman essentially snorting an entire eightball of coke.
"The fact that you got two gangs intersecting with the same issue means someone's messing with the chain of command. Either a really, really tapped in shapeshifter, or a someone tossing around the Arcadian Crown like it's no one's business. We had to have a meeting with the Crips for something kinda similar. They were clowning with turf war without the higher-ups knowing." He let the dog jump from his arms, pacing a bit as he thought to himself.
"I think if you tap into your innate knowledge of the Mirror, you can just ask the vial where it came from. Or you can some with me while I twist some arms."

Loki's words jogged his memory, once he had finished being all mopey. Something Smudge had told him, something about gangs.
"The woman. Vasquez told her that somebody was replicating the formula for Rose Water. She told him to let it go for now. Something about setting off the Crips again."
He wasn't trying to impress the Elemental, shut up. Though he considered his advice.
"Yeah, yeah. That seems smart. I was supposed to go to warehouse days ago, but got caught up. They probably moved by now anyway."
He touched the mug of coffee to see if he could drink some. It was unfortunately still steaming.
"Want me to keep you updated?"

Loki held up a calloused hand.
"Hold up. Warehouse? The woman you mentioned earlier? What makes you think 'they' moved, who is 'they'? The Chinese?" It was by sheer sympathy for Ivory's situation and the Fireheart used to processing the world faster than everyone else, that he wasn't frustrated with the stranglehold trickle of information that was coming from the Leaden Mirror.
"This is why we do reports," he muttered, more for himself than Rowan.

Rowan looked at Loki like he was an idiot.
"Yes, the woman. The one I keep telling you about, the who isn't Latin and has Vasquez eating out of her hand." Was he talking into empty space? Sheesh! He went through all this trouble to get good intel, and the Elemental was only half listening.
"Vasquez mentioned a warehouse where someone else was moving the product. Ivory thought it was the Wah Ching. Smudge said it was the Crips. Wasn't that what you meant by twisting some arms?"
Now he was just confused. Were they having parallel conversations that just happened to sound similar?
"It's just conjecture, about the move. It's what I would do - keep moving so I'm harder to pin down."

The Elemental mouths something as he unfocused, moving his hand around as he traces some invisible schematic in his mind's eye.
"Aight. Three unrelated gangs, Cartel are producers, according to this woman, and Crips 'stole' the method. And somewhere down the line there's a lady working with the Wah Ching and they may or may not also be circulating this product." His eye twitched as the fire flickered, and his foot left a burn mark on the hardwood without his notice.
"This woman can literally be anyone. Unless you've got, like, a physical description other than 'not obviously Latina'— which doesn't matter, you got lightskinned or mixed — then your lead is this warehouse where... Who owns it? Us or Crips? Do you know where it is, or are you asking me to ask around?"

"I think Smudge saw her, but I can't reach him." His mind was hazy, and focusing was hard. He eyes the coffee mug again.
"Oh thank God!" he breathed out, because the drink was finally not steaming anymore. He downed it like his life depended on it, big gulp after big gulp. He made an 'AAaaaH' of satisfaction and shook his head to clear his thoughts. "That should do it. Sorry."
"Right, where were we? Um, I have the location of the warehouse, it's Crips I think. It's a newer gang supposedly. They would have raided Cartel weapons?" Blink. "Ah. I should have opened with that, I think."
He shuffled from one leg to the other, looking for Bindi and the dog's magical distraction ball. "Man, I'm bad at this. I was just supposed to help with the Occult stuff."

The Elemental chuckled, shaking his head, "Tch. I should be clear: this Entitlement is based around hunting down the Lost that are...lets call it unrepentant. If you sought me to ask me about Cartel stuff," he titled his head, "That's complicated. Like, 'you have no idea' complicated. You opened with 'a street hawker OD'd.' Okay?" the Elemental offered a shallow shrug before he folded his arms.
"But now you're mentioning shit I actually care about. Someone's popped into the chain of command and stirred some confusion, so they can circulate a product without detection. The Cartel weapons was Eurydice's thing. They're actually the Arrayer's...and they've been recovered. By her motley mate, the Sun Banisher. Never heard anything about a Fey drug, though."
He absently rubbed the scar across his throat, "Makes things a little more complicated. Unless it's just a coincidence, a Changeling using a gang that just so happened to steal from a powerful motley would come off as a declaration. I dunno Spring's politics, but I doubt the shot was being taken at the Arrayer or Summer's arms. Eurydice's got some kind of important role to the Emeralds, though." The Fireheart snorted through his nose,
"I don't know anyone who would want Fawkes' attention..." He grimaced, "Anyway- someone's being naughty in Spring, then. This looks bigger than the drug; that seems to be just a symptom. The chemist should be stopped, either way. We've already had to clean up a lot of confusion with the Crips not wanting a war, but their boys moving without their oversight. If people are having supernatural depression and offing themselves, we're going to be dealing with some woke Hunter gangbangers. Like you said."

"If the weapons have been recovered by the Sun Banisher, then I doubt I will be able to find anything there, right? So no point going." Energy was hitting his system and his empty stomach, making him a little jittery.
"I, um. Except Ivory, no one really likes me in Spring, but I'll make something work." Of course it was Spring. It always was. "And I'll find that chemist as well."
He started making his way to the door, but swayed a little in the hallway and had to catch himself on the wall. So much for energy. "Maybe some sleep first. I could go see Tia at the Hostel," he mutters to himself.
"Thanks for the help clearing this up. It's been... a lot, all at the same time."

"You mirror hop?" Loki thumbed back towards what was likely a room that had said mirror. "Whitney's on the other side of the city. 'Bout a twenty minute walk and two hours of bus hopping." He seemed oddly tapped into the routes and options for traversing the city. Running from this Torrent must be an experience.
"Or you can just crash here," he said, grabbing the empty cup and lightly lifting the fluffy dog with the top of his foot as she started bouncing around his legs in hopes for a second breakfast. She was swept to the side and outside the kitchen in a practiced movement, to which she switched gears to paw at Rowan's toes.

He blinked a few times. "If it's not too much of a hassle. You seem to know more about being a Darkling than I do. You're making me look bad." It was a joke, of course it was a joke. He was just trying to divert attention from how grateful he actually was. He couldn't look weak in from of Loki, he had learned that much. 'Conceal, don't feel,' Elsa had said. Words to live by, really.
He crouched to be closer to Bindi. "Can I pet her?" His mom had told him to always ask before touching an animal that wasn't his. He wondered what she would say if she could see him now.

"Yeah, jut don't pick her up until she settles," the Elemental said absently, throwing a falsa blanket on the couch and retrieving a pillow from another room.
He shifted to texting on his phone, clearly slower than the average avid phone user as he squints, moving to make a call on the patio and speaking in Spanish.
Once Bindi realized that her owner wasn't moving towards a leash, she sat and looked up towards the Darkling, tail swishing but keeping still to prove that she was indeed Ready to be tall again.

He moved to pick her up in his hands, awkwardly keeping her at arms length and hyper-aware of hoe cold his hands felt now that they had fur around them. He looked at Bindi both sides, rotating her to get a better view. "How are you so happy all the time?" he asked the little critter. After a moment, he pulled her in to hold her against his chest. He was uncertain at first, but he had to admit that it felt nice.
"Who's a good dog?" he asked tentatively, as he walked around the house to get a better sense of it. He had no idea what time of person Loki was, outside of their meetings, and his Darkling curiosity kicked in.

Bindi's tongue lolled out, her tail increasing velocity the closer she came to the chest. As the Darkling spoke, she sniffed his ear, resting her head on his shoulder as she enjoyed being transported by her new palanquin.
The apartment itself was tidy, though as Rowan passed a workout room composed of mostly free weights the area was in disarray with burn marks in the mats. The office also looked like an explosion of papers had gone off, with haphazard notes. There was more than one portable fire extinguisher subtly nestled as to not look out of place. Rowan got the vibe that Loki kept the place mostly stark due to his clear inability to stay organized for long, therefore the minimalism guaranteed less clutter. The couch was kept central to the living room to maximize the space and take away from the lack of shelving or knick knacks. However, it wasn't without personality.
The liquor shelf, end tables, and coffee table had a similar design: likely hand-made. There was one shelf at the end of the hallway by the bedroom that had a small sculpture of blown glass, some candles, what looked like a small doll...? And two hand carved boxes. Once Rowan's attention swept over the family photo he realized what he was looking at, and moved on.
Loki mentioned if he needed to leave at any point, just to keep it casual: his place was watched all the time by the five-oh. The Elemental referred to it casually as 'added security'. It began to click that it was off for a Teniente to be living in a suburban duplex, where anyone could just drive by and riddle the wall with bullets.

He eyes the scorch marks dubiously and thoroughly avoided the area with the doll and the picture. It made him feel weird, knowing that even someone like Loki had his life together more than him. The Elemental was paradoxical to him - he seemed to cared little for the feelings of others, yet thought about his neighbourhood. He did come across like the sentimental type, but he still kept that shrine. In way, Rowan was the same - what you saw wasn't who he was.
He was rocking the dog like a baby in his arms, before realizing that he was lulling himself to sleep as well. He yawned as he headed to the couch. He was too weary to undress any further, so he just lied down and put Bindi on top of him and led down. Maybe that was why people likes weighted blankets, this feeling of being anchored.
He passed out the second his head touched the pillow. In his dreams, he was drowning in a sea of glittering pink water, and it was the most beautiful and peaceful thing ever.
